Dead internet theory: Large proportions of the supposedly human-produced content on the internet are actually generated by artificial intelligence networks in conjunction with paid secret media influencers in order to create consumers for an increasing range of newly-normalized cultural products.

reddit died with aaron schwartz

it had this then, but it wasn't allowed and people cared when you pointed it out

but then that is the reason they killed it..

normal folks where making news instead of consuming it

The small shilling efforts are probably just lame personal efforts. Reddit seems like it allows paid efforts to do much higher coordinated shilling campaigns, due to some campaigns obviously bypassing even the most standard automated limitation features, being seeming to be exempt from moderation, and being supported by admin manipulation of discourse (usually by the standard admin shadow ban I got hit with many times before leaving reddit's fake website).

It is way worse than that. There's a black-market for second hand high karma accounts and there are also a lot of companies who pay power mods to covertly shill for their products. And don't even get me started on the Natural-Language-Model AI bots and the government spooks embedded on the company's board of directors.
