I've often caught myself thinking about this whole thing since the fruit farmers brought it to light.

Steven is a 6'2" mentally ill felon. He sadistically abused his ex wife. "Poking", IMO, is more sadistic because it does not have the primal instinct of hitting someone out of rage. It is literally taunting someone, looking at them whimper, seeing the fear in their eyes, and enjoying it all.

He obviously has the mind of a criminal, seeing as he tried to conceal his identity in front of a police officer.

Based on all of this I draw the conclusion that there are 2 possibilities:

1) he's too mentally ill, and because of his record and fuked up head no one wants to even look at him. Thirsty for attention he turns to reddit and reddit delivers. He gets hooked and also troons out because that's something reddit likes even more. He actually believes that he's fighting the good fight. Things get to him: the dox, people harassing him, people slandering him, accusing him of cp etc.

2) he's playing the LONG con. He actually might not believe any of the bullshit he posts and does online, or that he's a woman. It's just to troll people derive pleasure. His posts pinned to his profile are really weird. He loves the fact that he can do whatever he wants and anytime something remotely bad happens to him he can simply play the victim. Nothing anyone does makes any difference to him, he just laughs and posts his weird ass copypastas to make it seem like he gives a shit.

I mean look, how can you hit children, abuse your wife, illegally possess a weapon, and do a bunch of other shit we don't know about - how can you do all of that and claim to be morally superior to everyone and give a shit about hate speech? There's two answers: either you can't, or you're mentally ill. Too much so.

I used to think he was a mediocre human and a mentally ill janitor but now I wonder if he's actually a psychopath. Am I reading too much into it?

Of course there's a third possibility that he's actually being unofficially paid by reddit to make the website more advertiser friendly. Spez doesn't know shit about how to monetize the website.
