I wonder what made the person give those two a ride in the first place. Did they offer to pay him or was it just a random act of kindness? Anyway, this just shows that even if you do someone a favor, they can still repay you with brutality and not gratefulness.

I interpreted it as they are members of the same gang and it was time to wack the driver.
