Well, a closed road, closed on account of their being there. But it bothers me that the protesters got so comfortable loitering on a freeway that the idea of a car blowing through was apparently unthinkable to them. "All cops are bad" (even though the cops are condoning this), so they're going to fuck with innocent motorists, for three straight weeks. They're like half hearted terrorists.

Lmao, the protestors were allowed to be there and the road was closed specifically for them (They got one of those permits that right-wingers are always screaming about), and you can still somehow twist this into being their fault. It's unreal. Maybe the entire blame falls on the scumbag driver who was fleeing from police at the time, who blew through a barricade and entered the highway from the oncoming lane.

Just because you don't agree with the protests or their methods, doesn't mean they deserve to get hit by cars. It's insane how polarized we are when half of the country will actively celebrate and wish for the deaths of the other half.

I'm going to need sources on both of these claims. The idea that you could get a permit for a freeway protest is fucking stupid, and I doubt any city even has the legal ability to do it if they wanted.

And fleeing from police? I'm very certain that fact of "be on the lookout for a white Jag that's evading police" would have been evident at the time of the incident, if true.

I'm pretty sure they don't issue "permits" to block a freeway and if you're standing in the middle of a freeway, whether you are "protesting" or not, you DO deserve to get hit by a car. Lions used to eat fools like these and keep the gene pool clean. We need more lions.

Seattle is not known for having people with 'common sense' these days, especially their politicians. It doesn't take a genius to figure out that people should not be standing on a highway road 'protesting'. This is the expected end result of such ridiculous behavior.

Protesting on a road is pretty stupid, but that driver clearly saw a bunch of people and was still flying through them. Defending this idiot is being just as dumb, if not dumber, than the protesters on the road. At least your immense stupidity won't lead to your death (for now).

Strangely the driver was a black guy, Dawit Kelete. According to a linkedin for the same name and city https://www.linkedin.com/in/dawit-kelete-0b2172102 he was a Door Dash employee. Me thinks he was upset that the freeway closure was getting in the way of food deliveries. At first I thought this was intentional, after watching the video I think he was angry about the closure but not trying to hit human beings, either. He stops up the road, but then takes off when he feels like his life is in danger.

Driver was reportedly fleeing from police at the time. I highly doubt this guy knew there was a protest, just saw a closed road and thought it was a good way to get away from the cops. He should have the book thrown at him of course.

Of course people should have the right to protest, if they close something down and have filled the right paper work, the state should allow them to protest and speak their piece even if they are misguided of course. OF COURSE

The road WAS closed down because of the protest. They were allowed to be there, but the motorist in question was reportedly fleeing from police and entered the highway from the oncoming lane, and blew through the barricade. You mean they weren't physically prevented from being there. If you break the law, and a cop doesn't stop you, that doesn't mean you are NOT breaking the law. The city might face a lawsuit for selectively choosing to not enforce the law that night, but I think the protesters having knowingly broken the law at the time will free the city of liability.
