That guy could have easily swerved right and then into a ditch.

Imagine being that first car and seeing this guy coming up in your rear view mirror.

Does Russia have more auto accidents than normal, or is it just me?

At a worldwide scale? No, but is pretty close to. According to W.H.O., 2018 numbers of fatalities/100k inhabitants/year gave a global number of 18.2 deaths over 100k in a year, so just 0.0182% of the pop'. The Russian Federation ended that year at 18.0, only 0.2 from the mean.

Now, the f/100k/y scale isn't particularly the best. I would be more interested to see results of fatalities/1M inhabitants/km instead, but Russia wasn't studied on that scale. Report is available here.

Thanks for the source.

By "fatalities/1M inhabitants/km", do you mean that distance traveled would be factored? That makes sense, since if the average Russian drives more than the average, say, Canadian, that seems important to note.

EDIT: This article says the death rate is higher than other First World countries. It suggests the causes are lack of respect for driving laws, a strange custom where you don't move your car after an accident (even if it's in the middle of the road), badly designed pedestrian crossings, and an excessive amount of signs that distract drivers.

I'm guessing that was an injured dog running/staggering/rolling along the concrete barrier there at the end.

Looks to me like a plastic bag in the wind.

No brakes. Probably on phone.
