Wiki tells me "the virus causes respiratory infections which are typically mild but, in rare cases, can be lethal." is this true? Are there any other sources?

I'm traveling in a bit (not to China but a neighbouring country) and for now I'm not too worried but I have to be honest: I didn't research this further.

There seems to be a lot of confusion right now. A lot of doctors are saying it is way worse than the Chinese government is saying. Something like 9% lethality according to rumor. It is extremely easy to transmit from person to person. One of the doctors was quoted as saying that one person will infect, on average, 14 other people. (The Spanish flu had an infection rate of 2-3 people.) They've got a couple of big cities on lockdown right now, but the fear is that it has already spread beyond the quarantine zone. Several verified cases in the US already.

So this looks like it will spread really fast and be pretty deadly. Be careful if you have to go. Wear a mask and wash your hands. Don't touch your eyes or your nose.

I wouldn't trust the Chinese govt to call a butterfly a butterfly

It looks like it COULD spread fast and be deadly. But just as you said earlier in your comment, there is a lot of confusion now. We simply don't know enough yet. People are working on that. We need to be safe, but we shouldn't be making things up like you are.

I'm just copying and pasting other people's comments. Some from Chinese doctors on Twitter.

Exactly. You are making things up if you spread unverified info. Don't do it. Are we clear?

Right now the fatality rate is about 5.8% in the US, but we know that number is wrong. Because they are only testing people with symptoms, not making broader tests of all the populace. So the denominator in that equation is too low, which makes the fatality rate look too high. Garbage in, garbage out. I had covid and I have lung damage. But I had a very mild case. I have a coworker who is on permanent disability after being on a respirator with pneumonia for over two months. And another friend who may also have permanent damage. She was a 25 year old athlete. But pay no attention, these are just anecdotes. The leaked White House report said that if we had not done the lockdown, there would be 2.2 million dead Americans by the end of the 18 month period until 70% of citizens had been exposed and the rest developed herd immunity. That is verified information - in a leaked report. But the data it was based on may have been wrong. Hard to say in hindsight. The mismanagement of this thing on all levels, from the WHO to the US government to the states to the hospitals, has been astonishing. If we had done nothing, it would have been far worse, that much is clear. But our response was something like the Three Stooges tying someone's shoelaces together. Total clown show.

What are you doing? Stop replying you fucking idiot. I wouldn't even let you lick my asshole. No one gonna read your nonsense.

I don't care. My personal motivation is to spread truth - regardless of politics. If someone on the left is wrong, I point that out. If someone on the right is wrong, I point it out also. I am trying to leave my own personal bias out of it and present undistorted information.

Stop lying. It is really that simple. Your problem seems to be at the root, you can't discern fact from fiction because you lack the mental facilities to do so. But you are so arrogant you think you can. Terrible mix. I'll just keep making fun of ya.

So let me ask you to think about something.

If you don't believe the case fatality rate and you don't believe the number of people who are listed as if they died of coronavirus? Fine. Let's just say they made it all up.

Now, instead, let's take a look at the overall death rate. The rate of dying from everything combined.

That rate has gone up. Way up. It looks like about 14%. Everything else is remaining about the same. But something, we'll call it the X factor, is making the extra people die. What is the X factor?

Now here's another way to think about it. The state of Tennessee isn't doing a very good job of counting coronavirus deaths. I think we can agree that they have a political motivation for people to die of "something else that isn't coronavirus". The Tennessee Health Department lists these people under a category called P&I (Pneumonia & Influenza). Suddenly, when coronavirus started taking off, the P&I deaths rose dramatically. Right now it's 600% higher than an average year. These are not people who died of pneumonia or influenza. They actually died of coronavirus, but they were not properly counted, because the politicians in Tennessee don't want to look bad.

I have been looking at this information from a lot of different angles, and all of it is bad. And, even worse, politicians in states like Tennessee and Florida and other places are deliberately trying to hide and obfuscate information.

Example: When coronavirus first hit, the general public was told that masks don't work. If you've watched the press conferences lately, Dr. Fauci reversed that. He told us that the public was deliberately lied to, because there were not enough real masks to go around and they didn't have enough emergency supplies for doctors and nurses. They didn't want the general public hoarding them and making the shortage worse. You can watch the press conference yourself. Masks work, but we were told that they didn't, because the emergency services were supposed to have giant warehouses full of them, but they didn't. They were never replenished from the last time we had an emergency. Your own government told you disinformation.

If you look at this data with a neutral third-party's point of view, it does not paint a good picture at all.

The recent meta-analysis of data says that coronavirus deaths are actually underreported. Probably about 160,000 right now. On track for 206,000+ by Election Day.

I realize I'm wasting my time talking to you here, but maybe you will come back to this thread in a year and realize that I was right.
