The security guard is a church volunteer. He’s not “trained” aside from knowing how to use a gun. So, yes, this is 100% 2nd Amendment preventing a mass shooting. Almost all churches security teams are comprised of volunteers / members serving in that capacity. Larger churches will have police or local law enforcement around as well.

To be fair, it's kind of dumb to present this as a case FOR the second amendment. It's a debate that really is significantly more complex than cherry picked events. If you submit this as evidence in favor, you have to accept the counter evidence such as Las Vegas and every other shooting. Not a great angle. Also, not disagreeing that it did save lives in this case!

This is a hamfisted way of looking at the issue. You could have things like background checks, no loop holes, waiting periods, etc. and all the good people in the church would have their guns, but this mentally deranged psycho might have had trouble overcoming all those obstacles, because he's a deranged psycho. His family said he was troubled his whole life.

Felons and the mentally deranged are banned from possessing guns under any circumstance, I honestly don't know how you plan to improve upon that system while retaining the rights of lawful owners.

It's very optimistic to assume that enough mentally deranged people that "detected" and thus banned. In fact many of these terrible events might be such people in the end. Mentally stable and sane people won't get religiously brainwashed. Same for supremacists.

Yeah but I think the point is that you can write any amount of laws stopping people from owning guns but because people are people and human nature is a stubborn thing that isn't going away any time soon, people will still get guns, only now it's the people whom you don't want having guns that now have them because they don't care what the law says they can and can't do, while the people whom you would want to have guns - the rational, healthy minded, sane people who do follow the law, can't have guns because the law says they're not allowed to.

Well, everywhere in the U.S. is full of mexicans and south americans, etc now. Texas vs Mexico was settled long ago. Unfortunately many people don't get that and places (like San Antonio where I live) are "sanctuary" cities and seem to defeat the purpose of being part of the U.S. Local police have no power to notify ICE of illegals, and catholic charities love to house these people to support their own cause. I see mexican flags everywhere here. Many people have more allegiance to mex-i-co than the country that they are living in. Fucking sad and aggravating.

The name of "White Settlement" was originally bestowed upon the community by several Indigenous tribes in the area. The city got its name because it was the lone village of white pioneers amid several Native American encampments in the Fort Worth area in the Texas Republic territory in the 1840s.

According to the wikipedia article in 2005 there was a vote to change the town's name to West Settlement and it was rejected by 2388 to 219.
Maybe nowadays it would be different. Maybe not.
