Been longing for this sub!

You're welcome, m8. I'm sure we'll grow and pick up speed. First subscriber!

saidit is dying. Voat.co is better

SaidIt isn't even 1.5 years old. A little early to call it off.

Why didn't you use the full title?

Why didn't you just talk in the other sub?

[–][deleted] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (8 children)

This is the same setup that existed on Reddit, so that's probably why.

This is SaidIt. For future reference you shouldn't hide behind initials IMO.

Why were there 2 subs?

One for videos, one for discussion

[–]JasonCarswell 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (5 children)

Isn't that what the comments are for?

[–]IAmMrPositive 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (4 children)

We always allowed users to create self posts for questions or general discussion because we really wanted to allow and promote actual meaningful discussion as much as possible. Once we got to be a certain size, it started to become a problem. Same questions over and over and too many posts. The users in the comments will talk about the specific video, but many people will want to come ask "Why do you guys watch this stuff?" or "What's the worst video you've ever seen", but these questions are so common and irrelevant in the comments that they get downvoted and told to fuck off basically sometimes.

Our solution was to create a side subreddit to refer people to. The intent was never to hide behind initials, as our users know what WPD means. I put up the CSS and I apologize, but there really won't be much besides discussion here. It seems unnecessary with so little activity, but it works well and we'll get bigger eventually.

Would you prefer something else? Is this your site? I don't believe we've met.

Thanks for the info.

Since the sub is established there's no way to change it and I don't see much point in making a new one next week. Because SaidIt is freer than Reddit I'm in favour of being clear with titles rather than being lazy or obscuring it with initials, especially for fringe or disturbing topics. Of course there's no rule yet and may never be. Exceptions may obviously apply to common names or names longer than 24 characters, like "MilitaryIndustrialComplx". It may be worthwhile adding a blurb to the sub description in the sidebox, much like /s/WatchPeopleDie/ , maybe even link to that sub too and link back from there since you're sub there too.

I'm not a fan of the icky stuff but I am a fan of free speech.

I also like organizing stuff, but not dictating how it should be organized.

(I just noticed spell check doesn't care if it's organised or organized.)

I recommend you check out: /s/SaidIt/wiki/ for two reasons: the FAQ for answers and to emulate.

Every time someone asks the same question you can answer it and add it to a wiki on your sub. It's an option in "sub settings". You can make it private, public but locked, or open for anyone to edit.

About me: /s/SaidIt/wiki/jasoncarswell

Start your own user pages there if you like.

Yeah I get it. I could remake it honestly, but that was never why we named it WPDTalk. It's because we always say WPD in conversation and "watchpeopledietalk" just seems so long. We have a Telegram group and we all know each other fairly well if you ever want to drop by.

We will definitely work on the CSS and wording of our rules. I'll probably copy over a few of my r/cringetopia rules:

1.1: Agendaposting: If it becomes clear that your activity in this subreddit is dominated by fixating on a single issue, you will be confronted and you may be banned. It is okay to have strong opinions on an issue, but do not let them dominate your activity to the point where you are flooding the sub trying to push an agenda. This is an equal opportunity rule.

1.2: Be Civil: If you want to discuss politics or controversial/taboo topics in the comments you are free to do so as long as you can keep it civil. Your ideas will not get you banned, but the manner in which you choose to express them can and will.

I'm a big believer in free speech too but on the internet people sometimes need a little guidance on how to not act like total cunts.

SaidIt keeps it classy by banning the lower levels of the Debate Pyramid.

I appreciated it and I hope the rest of SaidIt does too.

If you go to your stylesheet and do a search for "left: -142px;" you can adjust the "comments" button above that is too far left. I recommend trying "left: -102px;" to start. "WPDTalk" is much shorter than "WatchPeopleDie" in the line above it.

If you want a new banner image more specific to this sub just lemme know.

I don't know if there are other communities like this where this might apply, but maybe this might interest you: /s/SaidItSurveys/wiki/drafts#wiki_multi-issue

I think it's pretty easy for anyone who might have an issue with us to just not look at the sub. The name is quite clear. We had a pretty massive amount of support across all of reddit, believe it or not. Also, I'm pretty good at making banners and CSS is easy. I have a TON of stuff I have to do right now though. Writeups for WPD project, I'm doing Chris Chan Christory Month in r/cringetopia and have to write addendums, and I'm doing the CSS in r/tiktokcringe.

You don't mind if I snag s/cringetopia do you? I can't seem to make it. Must be locked because I just made this one.

[–]JasonCarswell 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

On SaidIt you can only make 1 sub per week.

Unless someone beat you to it, Cringetopia is all yours. Sounds cringeworthy.

If it's disturbing, I ask as a concerned SaidItron (I'm trying to make that term popular, to little success) that you make it evident in the banner and turn off thumbnails as WPD did. The name is pretty good but some people click by accident.
