I avoid anti-maskers as much as a sane person would avoid a syphilitic whore in the days before penicillin.

A lot of people think the masks either work or they don't work. Any reasonable person would have to agree that masks reduce the chance of virus transmission by some percentage. Maybe your doctor thinks the reduction is small, say 5%, so he claims "masks don't work."

If an infected person walks past you, wouldn't you agree that you both wearing a mask would reduce the chance of transmitting the virus by some non-zero percent?

[–]fred_red_beans 6 insightful - 2 fun6 insightful - 1 fun7 insightful - 2 fun -  (11 children)

No, I wouldn't. There is no evidence that the general public wearing masks, especially outside of all places, has any effect on the transmission of flu like diseases.

I had a good discussion about masks here:

In my country, there is high demand for the N95 surgical-grade mask. Surgeons wear these masks for good reason, so do you agree that wearing the N95 mask does reduce disease transmission (maybe not "flu-like" diseases)? If a surgical mask reduces disease transmission, is it reasonable to assume that it could possibly reduce virus transmission?

There is no evidence that the general public wearing masks, especially outside of all places, has any effect on the transmission of flu like diseases.

"There is no evidence that X" is not a valid argument to show that "X is not true." Also, would you agree that coughing on your hand then touching objects could increase transmission rates? If so, then would you agree that masks reduce the number of situations where children and adults alike cough on their hands?

Believe me, I am skeptical about how effective the masks are. But here, people were wearing masks before the pandemic. It must be a crazy coincidence the US has 30 times the number of deaths despite 1/6th the population (that or the numbers are fudged which I believe is true to some extent).

Surgeons wear these masks for good reason

If you're a surgeon then you are welcome to continue wearing masks during surgery.

Surgeons don't wear face masks to the grocery store, etc., Because there is no benefit, and there are tangible risks.

[–]C3P0 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (5 children)

there is no benefit

Why would the mask suddenly cease to reduce disease transmission rates when worn in a grocery store?

These are numerous published papers over the recent decades that all concluded there's no statistically significant difference in reduction of flu transmission.
None.

All published without the interference of political interest.

These findings are now being conveniently ignored.

Recently produced papers have suggested that the masks do help, but they were all produced during a politically interested environment.

Politics corrupts science.

The realty is viruses do not travel through the air.

Bacteria infecting the lungs can be expelled from coughing.

Tuberculosis can be transmitted through coughing.

N95 masks are designed to prevent transmission of tuberculosis.

Masks do nothing for "viruses".

Oh, I definitely agree political interests are the biggest part of this.

The realty is viruses do not travel through the air.

Dubious claim if anything. Anything can be blown through the air. Notably, water. However, if you search around, it seems debated whether or not the coronavirus travels through air.

Have a nice day, Tom.

"There is no evidence that X" is not a valid argument to show that "X is not true."

There's no evidence that having a condom on while at the dinner party won't decrease the transmission of STDs even if you go home alone.

There's no shortage of N95 masks. Wear one if you like.

If you would like to know more about my position on masks, please reference the aforementioned link.

It blocks/reduces the droplets of virus infused phlegm that plague carriers emit. Good enough for me. As far as stores go... No shoes, no shirt, no mask, no service. If you want to be unhygienic stay away from people who want to stay safe.

[–]Tom_Bombadil[S] 4 insightful - 3 fun4 insightful - 2 fun5 insightful - 3 fun -  (16 children)

Good enough for me.

That sums it up. You're used to accepting MSM talking points so you can go back to sleep.

If you want to be unhygienic stay away from people who want to stay safe.

Textbook NPC logic.

Life is inherently unsafe. There's no guarantees to safety in a free society.

Those who chose safety over freedom are free to decline participating in society to the extent that they choose to remove themselves.

The current hysteria is intended to remove freedoms, and free action.

It's medical martial law, and tyranny.

Democratic Governments aren't supposed to keep us safe.

No one voted for any of these radical policies. These have all been imposed through fear.

If you want to be selfish, anti-science and unhygienic, your choice. If society and shop owners want to treat you as ignorant disease bearers, our choice. Contaminate your little enclaves of flat-earth believers all you want, but stop killing our seniors and immune-suppressed friends and families with your stupidity and narcissism.

If society and shop owners want to treat you as ignorant disease bearers, our choice.

This is the ultimate goal of this PsyOp.

To create the perception that everyone is a biohazard.

It's an absolute fraud of the scientific community. Thousands of Scientists speaking out publicly against the propaganda.

There are inalienable risks in life.

No one is guaranteed safety.

Demanding healthy people wear masks is the most cowardly and selfish idea that has ever entered the public sphere.

The mask wearers are among the most servile and cowardly people in human history.

There is a complete absence of critical thought.

They are foolish beyond words.

You special snowflakes can keep on acting selfish and narcissistic all you want, the rest of us will treat you like lepers. Your choice after all.

I think we can agree on one thing.

We both hope you are the first in line for a large dose of the vaccines.

Demanding healthy people wear masks is the most cowardly and selfish idea that has ever entered the public sphere.

Hyperbole much? Worse than locking people up for life because of a plant? Worse than stringing a person up in a tree or dragging them behind a truck because of their skin?

Tell me, do you believe washing your hands after using the bathroom is an affront to your inalienable freedumbs too? At least you make yourselves easier to spot than people who don't wipe or wash, thanks for that.

[–]Tom_Bombadil[S] 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (7 children)

Worse than locking people up for life because of a plant? Worse than stringing a person up in a tree or dragging them behind a truck because of their skin?

Easily worse than all of these.

99% of the population is Quarantined and imprisoned in their homes over something with a death rate if the flu.

The economy was destroyed, and millions unemployed.

Many multiples more people are impacted, because of a disease that isn't proven to exist, and is less deadly than the common flu.

Fact.

Fine with me snowflake, you just stay in your disease-ridden shithole and feel free to infect your fellow sociopaths and narcissists ( a self-solving problem, hopefully). You bring your delusional plague embracing idiocy into our sane community that values our health, you will be stopped.

I will avoid you like the plague, don't worry. And providing citations to someone as anti-science as you are, would be pointless. Everything is dismissed as "fake news" by you people.
