This is because the ordinary people have no one to represent or defend their interests in society. They pay for government but it only represents the interests of the global corporations and the wealthy tyrants that hold the stock in them.

This has created a sociopathic world where people are just the market and the labor force to be exploited in any way that is profitable to those corporations and the lack of any peoples representation in government means there is no one to challenge the tyrannical exploitation of the people by those corporations.

Things will only get worse as those corporations keep pushing the people further into tyranny and meeting no resistance from government.
