0:00 as tech giants around the world continue 0:02 to sense our free speech amazon have 0:04 designed an app for their workers that 0:06 prevents them using words like i'd like 0:08 a pay rise what could be the motivation 0:11 behind it 0:14 hey hey hey you are part of the 5.5 0:16 million awakening wonders that's gonna 0:18 change the world congratulations on 0:20 joining us on this path if you want to 0:22 come see me live there's a link in the 0:24 description few tickets remaining it's a 0:26 different experience life you might not 0:27 like it but give it a try and also 0:29 subscribe if you're not a subscriber 0:31 only half of you subscribe let's get 0:34 into this story now we've been talking 0:35 about amazon for a while they are a 0:37 company of unprecedented power 100 years 0:40 ago it was steel and oil these days it's 0:43 the science of consciousness purchase 0:46 behavioral manipulation and at the 0:48 epicenter of this great web exists 0:51 amazon as powerful and as necessary for 0:53 survival as the forest and ecosystem 0:56 they named themselves after we know 0:59 already that they don't like their 1:00 workers unionising and those of you that 1:02 are a little bit well i don't like units 1:04 that sounds like a left-wing thing all i 1:06 mean is ordinary people having some 1:08 rights in their workplaces being out 1:09 manage their own communities and lives i 1:11 don't mean centralized state communism 1:13 like the mad wailing towers of china or 1:16 war hungry russia i'm talking about 1:18 people being able to organize their own 1:20 lives and workplaces well in addition to 1:22 not being able to team up with their 1:23 powers to get a fair days pay for a fair 1:25 day's work also now amazon have got a 1:27 new app that stops people talking to one 1:30 another censorship at a micro managerial 1:33 level that's going to blow your minds 1:35 have a listen to this amazon remember 1:37 the little smiley arrow will block and 1:39 flag employee posts on a planned 1:41 internal messaging app that contain 1:44 keywords pertaining to labor unions 1:46 according to internal company documents 1:48 reviewed by the intercept an automatic 1:50 word monitor what little snitch 1:53 what did you just see what did you just 1:55 see 1:56 an automatic word monitor would also 1:58 block a variety of terms that could 1:59 represent potential critiques of 2:01 amazon's working conditions like slave 2:03 labor hey what do you mean sleeve libra 2:05 you're the luckiest guy in the world 2:08 prison as well as restrooms why are they 2:11 worried about people saying that if 2:13 you're running a tight ship but a fair 2:15 ship it is you know i think people might 2:17 start using words like i feel like i'm 2:19 imprisoned or this is like slave labor 2:22 or why can't i go to the restrooms 2:24 restrooms is one of them okay you know 2:26 how we don't let people go to the 2:27 restroom so we don't pay them enough 2:28 money yeah well ban them from talking 2:31 about that by banning the word restrooms 2:32 and slave labor here's an idea let 2:35 people go the bloody restroom presumably 2:37 related to reports of amazon employees 2:39 relieving themselves in bottles to meet 2:41 punishing quotas so you start to see 2:43 like amazon drivers whizzing about near 2:45 where you live it's because they have to 2:47 meet quotas and they have to like wee in 2:49 a bottle while they're driving oh my god 2:51 i gotta make my next thing oh i gotta 2:53 win a bottle if only there was a 2:54 restroom 2:56 someone said restroom why are you 2:57 talking about oh no i got we on my 2:59 goddamn legs oh 3:02 our teams are always thinking about new 3:04 ways to help employees engage with each 3:06 other like blindly and compliantly and 3:09 obediently like you're in an orwellian 3:10 nightmare here's a new way to 3:12 communicate don't say anything that's 3:14 gonna piss me off okay i just need to 3:16 finish off this week are you sure i 3:18 can't use the restroom 3:22 i suppose that what we feel about the 3:23 tech revolution and the glories and the 3:25 miracles that it's brought us the 3:26 ability to communicate with you right 3:28 now you can watch us on your phone you 3:29 can watch us in your home that is 3:31 incredible and unbelievable i'm more 3:33 concerned about the blanketing out of 3:35 the human experience the inability to 3:37 acknowledge human fallibility and the 3:39 continual need for communication 3:41 tolerance acceptance that we're 3:44 messy we're great we're ingenious but we 3:46 need to be what i want to say honored 3:48 and appreciated you can't continually be 3:50 chiseling them into a shape that fits in 3:53 with your business model otherwise 3:54 that's a kind of corporate tyranny we've 3:56 talked again and again on this channel 3:58 about how the state is looking for new 4:00 ways to introduce authoritarianism into 4:03 your lives by manipulating scientific 4:05 data and we've talked before about how 4:08 tech platforms like twitter have been 4:10 accused of being sensorial in the past 4:12 now on a more micro level within amazon 4:14 which is probably one of the biggest 4:15 companies in the world is the biggest 4:16 one has the most significant number of 4:18 employees they're preventing you saying 4:19 words like restroom and then complaining 4:22 about it don't you think that 4:23 increasingly the social solutions we're 4:25 being offered are rather than like 4:27 solving the problem stopping people 4:29 talking about there being a problem hmm 4:31 there's a lot of problems with people 4:33 saying that this is like a death camp 4:35 and it's slave labor what could we do we 4:38 could create fairer conditions for the 4:40 people that work here i mean it would 4:41 mean a diminishing of profit profit 4:46 new ways to help employees engage with 4:48 each other said amazon spokesperson 4:49 barbara m agree in november 2021 amazon 4:52 convened a high-level meeting in which 4:54 top executives discussed plans to create 4:56 an internal social media program that 4:58 would let employees recognize co-workers 5:00 performances with posts called shout 5:02 outs according to a source with direct 5:04 knowledge hey yo here's a little shout 5:06 out hey i got a little shout out what is 5:09 it i want to end my own life what are 5:11 they trying to turn us into what kind of 5:13 banal insipid tepid empty hollow empty 5:17 drone droid folk are they trying to turn 5:19 us into 5:21 the major goal of the program amazon 5:23 head of worldwide consumer business dave 5:25 clark said was to reduce employee 5:27 attrition by fostering happiness among 5:29 workers we've got to foster some 5:31 happiness how should we do it shout out 5:33 i got a shout out what is it i just went 5:35 to the toilet in my trousers ooh two 5:38 thumbs up how about not paying them 5:40 pennies and making them [ __ ] themselves 5:42 while they're in their job that could 5:43 improve morale fostering happiness among 5:45 workers and also productivity oh yeah 5:47 productivity i mean mostly amazon we 5:49 care about happiness that's why i smiley 5:51 arrow but if you could do more work as 5:54 well showers will be part of a gamified 5:56 reward system in which employers are 5:58 awarded virtual stars and badges for 6:00 activities that add direct business 6:01 value you could improve working 6:03 conditions in a number of ways you could 6:05 pay people more money and create better 6:08 work conditions or you could gamify 6:10 their working conditions and give them 6:12 virtual which means by the way pretend 6:14 patches what are they like little morons 6:17 we're not even giving them real dog 6:18 biscuits but a photograph of a dog 6:20 basically how was work today it was 6:22 pretty crushing actually i had to do 6:24 [ __ ] in your trousers earlier here's a 6:25 photograph of a dog biscuit does that 6:27 cheer you up no not really instead of 6:30 gamifying reality create a better 6:32 reality how's work going i'm a little 6:34 bit depressed would it help if we would 6:36 let you put on this little pig ribbon 6:37 that mrs pac-man used to wear on that 6:39 little thing where she eats dots no 6:41 could have some more money 6:43 could i once again try and convince you 6:45 about the pig ribbon but company 6:47 officials also warned of what they 6:48 called the dark side of social media do 6:50 you mean people telling the truth and 6:52 communicate with one another about how 6:53 difficult it is at work and decided to 6:56 actively monitor posts in order to 6:58 ensure a positive community we've got to

[–]JasonCarswell[S] 2 insightful - 3 fun2 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 3 fun -  (3 children)

7:00 ensure a positive community so we're 7:02 just gonna actively monitor your post 7:05 but remember you get badges and here's a 7:07 photograph of a dog biscuit that should 7:09 cheer you up wouldn't even do that to 7:11 your actual dog would you you don't grow 7:14 our actual dog biscuit here's a 7:16 photograph of a dog biscuit it's like in 7:18 the room i'm very unhappy i don't poo 7:21 poo in my trousers at the meeting clark 7:23 suggested that the program should 7:24 resemble an online dating app like 7:26 bumble which allows individuals to 7:28 engage one-on-one rather than a more 7:30 forum-like platform like facebook where 7:32 people could come together and collude 7:34 and recognize that we're all feeling 7:35 basically the same feelings and we're 7:37 all struggling we're all suffering we've 7:38 all got dreams and we're all afraid and 7:40 we all need to connect with a deep power 7:42 within ourselves it's being suppressed 7:44 that we all need to awaken together we 7:45 all need to find new ways of 7:46 communicating start looking at new 7:47 models recognize that the world could be 7:49 in serious trouble and if we continue 7:50 under the curve 7:53 rather than emulating a model where 7:54 people can openly communicate and 7:56 perhaps express some shared values and 7:58 share these they're going to emulate a 8:00 model that's designed for me to have one 8:01 night stand to compliment each other and 8:03 having a nice bump oh god i'm so tired 8:06 i've just had a 12 hour shift and all i 8:08 got was 50 cents you've got a nice bum 8:10 oh that's not good enough here's a 8:12 photograph of a dog's biscuit following 8:14 the meeting an auto bad word monitor was 8:17 devised what are we children 8:19 constituting a blacklist that would flag 8:21 blacklist bad word monitor this is worse 8:24 than george orwell a blacklist that 8:26 would flag and automatically block 8:28 employees from sending a message that 8:30 contains any profane or inappropriate 8:33 keywords in addition to profanities 8:35 however of the terms included many were 8:37 relevant to organized labour with free 8:39 text we risk people writing shout outs 8:42 that generate negative sentiments yeah 8:44 that's a problem with free speech 8:46 generally what it is is people might say 8:47 stuff you don't like i agree with free 8:49 speech oh yeah some people might say 8:51 things you don't like 8:52 free spirit no i don't like free speech 8:55 i like me speech where me say what i 8:58 want where i say whatever i want and 8:59 nobody else says anything yeah that's 9:01 not free speech that's the opposite of 9:04 free speech that's tyranny so next time 9:06 you talk about what you want here's a 9:08 little word that's going to help you i 9:10 want tyranny i don't want people i 9:13 disagree with having the ability to 9:15 communicate and to reward them for that 9:17 they could see a photograph of a dog's 9:18 biscuit generate negative sentiments 9:20 among the viewers and the receivers a 9:22 document summarizing the program states 9:24 we want to lean towards being 9:26 restrictive on the content that can be 9:28 posted to prevent a negative associate 9:30 experience oh my god a negative 9:32 associate experience what that sentence 9:34 actually meant was we are going to 9:36 prevent dissent we are going to control 9:38 dissent this template i reckon is 9:42 playing out across social media more 9:45 broadly that there's a shared tech 9:47 mentality the reason i posit this is 9:50 because they are all built on they are 9:53 collation models they're all beyond 9:55 right this is how people generally 9:56 behave these are the outcomes that we 9:58 want if we tweak this we can achieve 10:00 that i'm not inter vilifying powerful 10:03 individuals i'm going to really try not 10:05 to say oh this is because of this 10:06 powerful person or even these powerful 10:08 organizations i believe that people have 10:10 become misguided and lost their way and 10:13 that we must find our way home to 10:14 humanity and i'm saying that to you with 10:16 this on in addition to the automated 10:18 system managers will have the authority 10:20 to flag or suppress any shout outs that 10:22 they find inappropriate the documents 10:24 show a pilot program is slated to launch 10:26 later this month in addition to slurs 10:28 and swear words the planned list 10:30 includes the following words here's 10:32 words we don't want you saying at amazon 10:35 who knows why we think you'd want to use 10:37 these words and why these words would be 10:39 a problem but here are those words i 10:41 hate union fire terminated 10:45 pay rise bullying harassment i don't 10:48 care 10:50 you're not even allowed to retreat into 10:52 nihilism oh god this is too much i can't 10:55 cope i don't care anymore 10:57 stop caring rude this is concerning 11:01 that's not something that a sweet auntie 11:03 would say i just visited the warehouse 11:05 there's people doing poops in their own 11:07 trousers this is concerning 11:11 stupid this is dumb prison threat 11:14 petition griefers what level of dissent 11:16 are you willing to tolerate 11:19 none i'm [ __ ] hell injustice 11:22 diversity ethics fairness accessibility 11:24 living wage wouldn't it be nice to have 11:26 a living wage 11:28 here's a photograph of a living wage 11:30 representation unfair favoritism unite 11:34 unity is there anything we could talk 11:36 about no just [ __ ] yourself and get out 11:38 of your job slave slave labor master 11:41 concerned freedom it's like annihilating 11:44 the human experience now you may think 11:47 this is a minor thing because it's one 11:48 organization and it's only a prospective 11:50 app but what it is is a revelation of a 11:52 philosophy that many people suspect is 11:54 the governing philosophy as we enter the 11:56 end times the limitation the 11:59 annihilation of the human experience the 12:00 human being is only allowed to exist 12:02 within narrow parameters outside of 12:04 those parameters you've got no rights 12:05 you've got no freedom of closing in a 12:07 gradual enmeshment of the machine until 12:09 your humanity is squeezed out 12:12 drained out of you like a squeezed tea 12:14 bag that's a metaphor i use because i'm 12:15 an englishman and i'm still angry that 12:16 you threw that tea into the sea at 12:18 boston when you began that revolution 12:20 which i hope you're willing to repeat 12:21 but against a different kind of 12:23 tyrannical monarch restrooms how long is 12:26 it before amazon designs a little 12:27 machine that prods poop back up your 12:30 butthole to prevent you from needing to 12:33 go i mean that's only one step worse 12:35 than what's being proposed robots hey 12:38 they're going to get robots to replace 12:39 us and talk of us automating this 12:42 experience is unfair and bad but you're 12:45 a robot 12:47 committee coalition they're trying to 12:49 prevent these sort of infrastructure of 12:51 it being discussed amazon workers at a 12:53 fulfillment center in staten island new 12:55 york stunned the nation by becoming the 12:56 first amazon location to successfully 12:58 unionize this came as a shock to many 13:00 because it was achieved by an 13:01 independent union not affiliated with an 13:03 established union and that operated on a 13:05 shoestring budget with a budget of 120 13:08 000 the amazon labor union managed to 13:10 defeat the 1.5 trillion behemoth which 13:12 spent 4.3 million on anti-union 13:15 consultants in 2021 alone it's not true 13:18 that we are against unions why spending 13:20 4.3 million dollars in one year on 13:22 anti-union consultants 13:26 i suppose that victory for that small 13:27 group of people coming together is a 13:30 template of our own that we can use if 13:32 we're willing to come together in 13:33 communities if we're willing to overlook 13:35 our own intolerances our own bigotry 13:38 other people's flaws and mistakes if 13:40 we're willing to assert our humanity 13:42 with love what does our humanity mean 13:44 we're flawed we're fallible we make 13:46 mistakes but we also make everything 13:48 else all reality passes through human 13:51 consciousness of course there is the 13:52 natural world but our perception of it 13:54 takes place in here in your 13:56 consciousness clean up your 13:58 consciousness awaken yourself 14:00 spiritually do what needs to be done as 14:02 an individual then you will become an 14:03 asset to the collective and the more 14:05 assets we have the better chance we'll 14:07 have of confronting this mighty machine 14:09 that wants to exclude the very essence 14:11 of what it is to be a human ring us out 14:13 and drain us of our compassion our 14:15 fallibility our flaws our magnificence 14:17 let me know in the comments below if you 14:18 agree with me let me know in the 14:20 comments below if you believe that 14:21 collectivism new forms of social 14:23 organization are the answer and what 14:24 risks are entailed in that i'm not an 14:26 any business person i'm not even an 14:28 anti-profit person i'm just a pro-human 14:31 being human being hit me up in the 14:33 comments below if you agree with me if 14:34 you enjoyed this video have a look at 14:35 this one or this one please subscribe to 14:37 my mailing list so we can develop our 14:39 own communities if your fans are coming 14:40 to see me live and feeling that actual 14:42 human experience then you can do please 14:44 I was trying to figure out what this is. And then it clicked and I laughed really hard.

Thank you for the comment. How did you do that?

YouTube has the ... icon under which you can get the "auto-transcript" on many videos.

Wow cool.
