Many of those struggling orgs were given massive cash infusions by Arcus Foundation, funded by Stryker Medical. They also donated to queer departments at universities.

By the late 90s and early 00s, a lot of liberal straight couples were doing civil unions or other non-traditional "marriages". A lot of them rejected the religious connotations of the word marriage. I understood the legal rights needed for gay partners but I didn't understand the need to force churches to marry them.

Matt Walsh has pointed out this is when they started to change definitions to force society to adapt to their rules. Marriage was no longer a life-long union with the promise of children, but just a "relationship" that could be ended at any time, between any sexes. And now any number of people.

Churches are not required to marry anyone, in the US at least. Also churches do not hold the legal power of marriage. It's granted by the state and anyone can become a justice & a priest must be granted the power to conduct a legal marriage by the state. Christian churches claiming to own marriage (in general) is ridiculous as marriage predates Christianity.
