Same. It’s a key piece of advice that, for some reason, is alien to a lot of people.

She told me the same about eavesdropping too lol. You might hear something you don't like and it's only your own fault.

It's just weird to me if you're saying you want honest advice then get upset people tell it how it is. You forfeit that when you literally ask for it. I'll admit I have asked questions where I haven't liked the answer but it was also something I needed to hear so I didn't have a fit about it.

I think it's one of those mum phrases.

Similar to how every dad says "what do you think this is, Blackpool illuminations?" when you left a light on.

It does amuse me how universal those phrases seem to be though.
