It's certainly astroturfed to hell and back.

Thing is there might well be a constitutional issue with the law since the current political modus operendi is to essentially cram through hastily written legislation for the political win and then use the inevitable court tie up as more fuel for the culture war election fundraising fire.

Also doesn't help that the current political zeitgeist is one of essentially one constant crisis. Hearing the pundits now it's reminding me of the Obama health care push years ago. We need to pass this now it's critical, start mentioning problems and they go on about "those are edge cases and don't matter"

No they do matter because they're exactly what ends up sinking legislation.

Here are the choices, you either take the time to pass a stable bill that will stand up to criticism, and yes that means that in the interim the problem will continue, or you pass through a shoddily crafted bill, it gets struck down, and the problem continues anyway, and the politicians stop giving a fuck until the next election season.
