The whole thing was utterly retarded. I remember back at the time having a good laugh about all the racist Japanese people in Japan who wear business suits. Personally I think these sorts of attitudes border on "dangerously racist" since the very idea that the clothing one may wear is determined by their race seems adjacent to the idea that one must wear certain clothing based on their race, which if you can see the connection congratulations, you get a gold star! I frequent anime conventions, and last year attended a panel about kimonos.

The hosts shared how when they went to Japan, they went to a kimono store, and the little old ladies working there treat you like a fashion doll and dress you up how they see fit. Obviously you get a say, but for the most part, the sanbas treat you like a doll. It's great.

The reason they have a higher rate of diabetes is because they had a higher rate of starvation in their history than Europeans who developed a culture to avoid that.
