I was chatting with an older relative and they were talking to me about how the "new trans movement" was furries now and trying to explain what a furry was while I pretended to have no clue.

It really does clue me into the current problem all around with educators. A lot of these people are truly clueless when it comes to what kids are doing on the internet. Not surprised.

Not all self styled furries are creepy pedos of course, but this is a danger zone for certain. The cute animal characters are common in kids shows so of course kids like them, and this is an easy way for pedos to predate on the kids. This overview completely fails to mention that.

It says there is no evidence that furries are associate with sexual deviancy? I laugh. If you want evidence search furries on Google with the safe search off. There's loads of evidence. If you want to scar yourself for life go ahead and search "yiffing" or for the truly depraved shit "e621" but be warned, loads of NSFL shit.

If your kid starts expressing interest in joining the "furry community" it is most likely just an awkward teenage phase brought on by porn consumption. You go look through their porn history you'll not be happy with what you see. The simple solution to this is of course to not let your kids have unsupervised access to the internet.

The only people who believe the "furries aren't sexual" bullshit are naive boomers who think they've actually won a free prize because the pop up add told them so.

I looked up yiffing… that was plenty for me. I don’t want to know anymore.

What, you don't want to add some monosodium glutamate to your eyes? (That what e621 should get results for, in a safe search.)

For someone who hates furries, you sure seem to have.... researched.... them in high detail.

How do you expect to have an informed opinion about something without studying it?

I don't need to try eating shit to know I don't want to eat it.

If a child or young person in your care begins to show an interest in joining any community, be it online or off, how you approach and handle any related conversations is crucial. It is important to build a safe environment for them based on trust where they feel comfortable expressing themselves to you as their parent or carer. To help you do this, our online safety experts have rounded up some top tips.

Engage in conversation about what it means to be a Furry and the benefits of the Furry community. Outline what sort of behaviour is appropriate and respectful, online or offline.

Do your homework. Familiarise yourself with the different forums and terms used by the Furry community to ensure you know what you’re discussing.

Discuss online safety with children and young people. Remind them that anyone they interact with online may not be telling the truth about who they are and highlight the important difference between a fursona (an outward expression) and a real person. Go over online safety habits to ensure they are comfortable acting on them, such as not sharing any personal information or reporting something that makes them feel uncomfortable.

Approach the interest with no judgement. Ask open ended questions about the content your child or young person finds most engaging. It is important to remain understanding, even if you cannot fathom why something has caught your young person’s interest.

Join parent groups and follow Furry-specific organisations like Fur Science. Not only will you find relevant resources to help you, but you’ll find that talking to other parents will help you feel supported and confident when connecting with the young person in your care.

Honestly there's nothing particularly crazy in there, it's just ridiculous that we've come to a place where someone felt the need to write this up, and in such a serious sounding manner too.

It’s not the advice per se, it’s the existence of the advice and the implication that they’re bringing the OG degenerate internet subculture into the identity politics fold.

That poor, poor suburban Mom who comes across the first age play furry porn comic strip...

I mean, she's a suburban mom in [CURRENT YEAR]. She's probably got something just as raunchy tucked away under the mattress or in her own little USB drive.

Gotta say, I'm a furry (or was) and it's not something kids should be involved in. It would be ok if people could keep the clean and fetishy stuff separate, but they don't. It's also become heavily intertwined with gender ideology.

Adults can do whatever they like as long as they don’t expect me to engage with, endorse or affirm their choices that I disagree with and they don’t try to non-consensually involve me it it. So if you’re into gimp suits and strap-ons, fill your boots, but if you do it on the street in front of me we are going to have a problem.

The problem seems to be that some adults, for some reason really, really want to include children in their shit. There’s a court case at the moment about a school in Wales, I think, staging a mandatory Pride Parade for ages 3-11, where the kids had to wave rainbow flags, sing gay anthems and “celebrate diversity”. Over 180 children (out of probably 250) called in sick that day and found that they were penalised when they returned to school.

Why did that school think that having a pride parade was acceptable? It baffles me as a teacher as to what they were actually expecting the children to learn…it’s bizarre.
