They are. This is a group of people who are unwell to begin with, having both their delusions and persecution complexes fueled by social media, and being - I don't use this term lightly here - radicalized, of course that is going to spill out into the real world.

Radicalisation is a good term for it, it seems to follow a similar pattern to the kind of thing that happens to people persuaded to carry out Allahu Ackbangs.

Tell them something better awaits them, tell them that other people love them, separate them from their friends and family, tell them that they’re being oppressed, tell them that they can be special.

It’s very powerful, especially if the target is socially awkward or autistic or is struggling with mental issues.
