Going behind the parents backs here just seems a recipe for disaster. Especially if the person is transitioning "publicly".

So here's the thing, if I were a student in one of these classes now. You've just given me an excellent blackmail opportunity. Towards both the trans student, the teacher, the admin. And not even blackmail like what if I just up and mail an anonymous note to the kids parents? Or tell my parents so they can tell the kids parents. And it's not like they can punish you for it without revealing their hand to the parents anyway. Plus you can always play the mandatory reporter angle, "the teacher said to keep the students sexuality a secret, that led me to believe the potential for an inappropriate sexual relationship between the teacher and student exists therefore I am required to report it to all relevant authorities publicly"

My god how fucking stupid the teacher doing this must be. It's not a secret if everyone in class knows. The parents will find out. The students who don't have a fucked up relationship with their parents will talk to theirs about it and then the parents of the trans kid will find out that the school is going behind their back.

Telling children to keep secrets from their parents is an actual tactic of child abusers and good child safety education materials will warn children that anyone doing that should be reported to a trusted adult.

Any school with that as an official policy should be shut down.

I think if I was a kid in these classes I'd be changing my "gender identity" every day just to fuck with admin. My name? Call me Nimrod. Next day? Nah I feel more like a Abumasamalachkakakaklapaotu.

Of course it's deeply hurtful for me to see one of my dead names on the seating chart. Better get at it? What you just called my identity a joke? Well it's because they aren't in a position of authority over me obviously so I don't feel personally attacked. 11 year olds don’t think like that, and in my experience children of primary/elementary school age crave attention from their teachers putting the teacher in a very powerful position - hence why I think these grooming teachers should be fired because they have a class of children predisposed to wanting their attention and to please them, it’s a fucking dangerous thing and something that any teacher that actually cares about children would be very wary of.

I agree. I am a monster. My spirit animal is Oscar. And I am grouch gendered. My pronouns are fuck/off.

And yes agree completely keeping secrets from the parents is a definite no. If the kid is in actual danger from the parents there's proper procedures for that, but if the teachers actually believed the students were in real danger from the parents they wouldn't be sending them home with "let's keep your pronouns a secret" without being woefully and critically incompetent and deserving of being sacked. They'd be calling CPS or the equivalent in Canada and getting them involved.

Clearly they're idea of "danger" is that the parents might not accept the identity? Oh no! Who gives a shit. My parents don't accept my identity when I came out to them as an artist instead of a doctor boo hoo.

There are situations where there might be actual danger but even then, that's not a reason to keep secrets. Will a parent kill or physically abuse their own child for being LGBT whatever? Sure that can happen, but the issue is the physical violence and not the identity or it's acceptance of it or not.

It's the whole "people have to accept me or I'll kill myself" BS emotional terrorism. You're going to kill yourself because someone called you he instead of she? Ok. I'm going to kill myself if you don't give me $100. Do that and I'll call you whatever you want to be called boss.

When a student in a Calgary Grade 6 class came out as transgender this year, the teacher made one thing clear to the other pupils: they mustn’t let slip their classmate’s new gender identity to her parents.

If someone asks if you are trans,
Or tries to touch under your pants.
And says to keep it secret,
Then you must tell them "No!".
Then go and find someone you trust,
And tell them straight away.
They’ll say “well done for speaking out”.
And make everything okay.

Teachers who are concerned about the sexuality or gender identity of the children that they’re teaching should be struck off and have their hard drives checked. You don’t discuss any of that, nor your own relationships, with the children outside of well planned, age appropriate approved sex and relationships education which has been discussed in full with the parents prior to it being delivered. If you have a problem with that you have no business being a teacher, go make coffee or some shit.

It's social transitioning, they do it to kids that are gender nonconforming. Next is puberty blockers, then cross-sex hormones, then plastic surgery.
