But then what would be the point? It's like someone worrying about the invention of sliced bread might mean they don't have to cut it any more.

These sorts of trans people are basically exhibitionists that get off on offending other people. Call it narcissism or what have you. It's a power fantasy thing. They like dressing up as a woman and then going out and offending other people and getting into places they aren't welcome. They can't get off anymore if other people don't give a fuck.

It's different from actual gender disphoria. Blanchard I think had the basically general idea of it. Some people get gender disphoria because they are gay and can't accept that. Other people just have a kind of exhibitionist paraphilia where they get off on doing things that they aren't supposed to do.

That's just unfair. The simpler explanation is likely true:

These sorts of people- independent of gender identity- are dedicated to proving that they are special, even when they are absolutely not. They just happen to flock to gender identity because it's the easiest way to position yourself as cool, interesting, important, and otherwise special if you have no skills or even a particularly sparkling personality and there is literally nothing special about you in any way, shape, or form. (This is also the reason for xenogenders and specifically why everyone has their own xenogender they give; it all boils down to "I am so totally special that I cannot be defined by any other gender identity that has ever been seen in the entirety of human history.")

If you destroy gender to the point that gender roles are no longer special, then that means gender won't make you special anymore and THEY will cease to be special, since they can't think of something else to make them special.

Yes there are certainly loads of people adopting identities to be "unique". They're doing non-binary identities now. I suspect at some point they'll be a bit of a "de-transitioner" fad as well when they figure out that they can play at being the victim and get that same attention.

While that seems to work, the fact they shun the apostate more than the non-believer hurts that. They know the de-transitioner will be shunned, and even somewhere in their narcissistic brain there's one synapse somewhere that knows they traded everyone from their own life for this and might, possibly, have an inkling they aren't going to be welcomed back with open arms by those people- and so it becomes "you won't get ANY attention. From anyone. You'll have lost everybody in your life and have little to no hope of finding anyone else to give you attention."
