I don't even think it's that. The studio doesn't know what people want, it has woke LA up the wazoo. If I want to see a movie about gay issues I'll go watch that. Doesn't have to be a big expensive film. Who cares if you made a character in some sci-fi story gay? Even the gay couple in that Star Trek show made me go, 'why?'.

I didn't mind them at first but after they resurrected the boyfriend with magic space mushrooms I assumed the writers were smoking them.

I'll take the L and admit I watched that show until the end of that season. Dreadful, but something to put on when all the other Netflix options were exhausted.

Anyway, yeah wtf was with that shit. Extremely sterile and blandly written relationship but felt like they thought they were pushing boundaries. Everything in that show was like that.

I watched until the end of season three I think. It just gets progressively worse. Season three for like the first five minutes it started to look interesting but it clearly was using the "mystery box" formula and went nowhere.

Is that after Michael saves the universe with her angel suit? I quit after that... She starts a klingon war, then ends it, then a bunch of hooey and she's a time traveller averting whatever it was.

She travels to the future and then does a mutiny or some shit but then it turns out she was right the whole time or something and somewhat and she saves the federation from becoming an isolationist cabal of something or others and makes the Vulcans and the Romulans friends after meeting her mother who is now a Vulcan priestest in the future because reasons. Something else happens and she becomes captain or something. I honestly don't remember much. It went off the rails and got boring pretty quick. Not bothered to watch season four but apparently it's more of the same. Stacey Abrams is dictator of earth and has turned it into a kind of space north Korean isolationist state, Michael convinces her otherwise, nostalgia bate from some good TOS episode appears and the get rid of Michelle Yeoh who is like the last character that is any good. Then I stopped watching.

Only part I really remember was they added a non-binary character that had an awkward scene where she comes out as non-binary to the gay guy and he's like , ok. It was funny to me because the whole thing played off like some insecure teenager getting patronized but it was supposed to be some progressive message of love or acceptance or whatnot.

It's just all around not a great show. Plot is meh, they focus more on shooty shooty boom boom then plot. There's always some cataclysmic existential threat that only Michael can stop by being emotional or something.

Like just give me back the stupid episodes where the doctor falls in love with an alien ghost candle please. Monster of the week is so much better than weak season monster that turns out to be a misunderstood child the whole time.

I heard season four was even worse some kind of dark energy monster wants to destroy earth but first they've got to work out their feminine energy bullshit on the bridge by having a cry session or something. Riveting stuff.

But to be fair was still better than Captain Picard's journey will Romulan Legolas, alcoholic woman, and some Mexican Guy to defeat the forces of Android Racism and THE REAPERS through the power of SHEER FUCKING HUBRIS.

I heard season two had Picard become a Trump supporter and 7 of 11 hooked up with the alcoholic chick, so it doesn't sound like I missed much.

Haha yeah that's about right! And Michael is always right even when she's wrong because everything revolves around her for some reason. Not surprised there's an nb in there now...

The whole "let's follow someone who isn't the captain" idea can work since it can work as a plot device to keep information from the viewer and might be a good drama vehicle. But Michael is a goddamn fucking horrid character. Commits mutiny every five seconds. Hell I don't think she can get through a single episode without disobeying orders and obviously she's always right.

They did demote her for it once I recall, I think it lasted two episodes.

Yeah it bothered me too. Everyone is disobeying orders and somehow it's OK. At one point, I was wondering why they bother having ranks at all, as nobody does as they're told. Would never fly in old Trek.

Not to mention, the start of the show is Michael disobeying, triggering a war that presumably kills x amount of people but oh it's OK because she fixed it again and also is a good person. Or whatever, I can't remember. In any case, scot free for the rest of the show.
