A CNN anchor reporting on the Colorado Springs gay nightclub shootings went ahead and ignored requests by the suspects lawyers for 22-year-old Anderson Lee Aldrich to be referred to using they/them pronouns, because they are said to be non-binary. Broadcaster Alisyn Camerota, 56, delivered the news live on-air that Aldrich's legal representatives would be referring to their client as 'they' and 'Mx Aldrich' in upcoming court sessions and filings. Camerota ignored the wishes of the lawyer and continued to use he/him pronouns. 'I don't know what to say about that, I mean, that's what he's now saying,' Camerota said Tuesday evening, using the male pronoun. She, along with a panel of legal and political analysts, appeared shocked by the announcement while another commentator went on to question the legitimacy of Aldrich's gender identity. Errol Lewis, a CNN political commentator, also continued to use male pronouns while discussing the case. 'It sounds like they're trying to prepare a defense against a hate crimes charge,' said CNN political analyst Errol Lewis. 'That's the least of his problems, legally speaking, but it looks like they're trying to build some kind of sympathy or at least confusion on the question of whether or not this was purely motivated by hate,' Lewis added.

I think it’s highly likely this is a ploy. The murderer is clearly a deranged individual who had severe mental health and drug addiction problems and was known to the police and his family knew he posed a threat to others.
However, the reaction to his declaration of “non-binaryness” being disputed kinda puts a big hypocrisy marker on all who doubt it, who otherwise support the uttering of magic spells, sorry “self-identification”.
It seems that the narrative is beginning to crumble, just wish it didn’t involve innocent people being slaughtered by a deranged lunatic.

Alternatively, he really is whatever, and they're trying to peel that off to avoid having shit stick to one of their favored groups. After all, what kind of look it is if one of the elect--instead of yet another hate-filled, evil yt man--is proven to be a mad dog killer?

That’s an interesting philosophical proposition, can you “really be” something that doesn’t exist?
As far as I’m concerned, legal ploy or not, he is exactly as non-binary as everyone else that claims to be non-binary, and treating him in any way other than the way in which you treat others making the claim is rank hypocrisy.

I would say that if you can get enough people to believe the lie, then it doesn't matter if it exists or not, you are simply by weight of belief. See Scientology, troonery, and pretty much every other con in creation.
