There's no ideological benefit to going out and killing random people. The only reason they all do it is because they've decided to give in to their "demons" if you will. Give up their own humanity in order to feel powerful. It's hate driven plain and simple. There's no rhyme or reason to where the hate is targeted. They want body counts, they just want to kill. They are all essentially rabid monsters who have given up their humanity for power and are agents of evil for evils sake. But that kind of pure unbridled hate when released doesn't serve the goals of anyone besides that base urge to kill the individuals hold.

Our society likes to focus on the trappings of these cases, the implements used. Guns, knives, whatever. These sorts of rampage killings happen everywhere regardless of what weapons are available. Body counts might be a bit lower but there's no real difference or question to the cause of it. People snap and decide to become an embodiment of pure evil. It has existed in literature as a concept forever. It can be anyone, you me, random guy on the street, we all make the choice not to be evil every single day, some better than others, but the capability for it exists in all of us.

But it's not a choice that most people will make, so it's the outcast, undertrod, abused, directionless. And a common trend there is bad parenting. Society prefers to focus on the guns because it's a red herring. They don't want to confront their own culpability in producing these monsters. As there are always ample opportunities for other people to notice and take action, and yet they rarely do. I was neglected and occasionally abused as a child and it went on for many years. Plenty of other people knew what was happening but they were afraid to do anything about it, so they simply comforted themselves with lies that it wasn't as bad as I was claiming it was. It couldn't be.

When all the adults in your life fail you, when you are suffering from their incompetence, when your life is in shambles and you have nobody to lead you out of the darkness, the devil's bargain looks more and more appealing. Cast off all ties and creed and become the manifestation of evil. Even knowing full well that the power of evil will abandon you just as quickly as it comes.
