I do wonder if this has anything to do with Twitter's new leadership. Lots of wokies are convinced Elon did/will ruin it somehow and threatening to jump ship. Tumblr might have thought this was their chance to regain some marketshare.

Tumblr banned adult content? Since when? I don't have an account but any time I search anything on Tumblr - something benign like Star Trek fanfiction - I immediately get cartoon porn.

That was ages ago, but only for real pictures if I recall correctly. I think nude art remained permitted all along.
