Abstract: Rebecca Tuvel provoked a firestorm by arguing that since we should accept trans* self-identification, we should accept transracial identification as well. This paper defends Tuvel’s conditional claim (if trans* acceptance, then transracial acceptance) but draws a different conclusion. I argue that reasoning similar to Tuvel’s establishes that people who identify as something other than human, and people who identify as physically disabled though their bodies aren’t impaired, plausibly also deserve recognition. This reductio ad absurdum of her reasoning should lead us to doubt whether we must embrace trans* self-identification as fully as self-described trans* allies claim that we must.

I believe it could always escape. Just the fact that it existed on Tumblr was a problem. Yeah, you have people who live kinda decent lives to others but online might expose really bizarre fetishes... Not all are dangerous though.

But anyway, here you have people so convinced that online they’re able to show their “real” identity; why be surprised it finally escaped to the real, offline life? Just as someone might be a fundamentalist or a terrorist, first they would expose extreme views in some closed groups, sometimes online but a day will come when that person will show their true colors behind that niche space.

See all of it is the same. I can totally accept that there are people out there that want to be a different race/gender/species whatever, but it's totally insane to pretend that just because they feel that way it means they actually are that way.

Transracial is probably the least crazy of all of it since race is more socially defined than the others and actually does exist on a spectrum. You have loafs of mixed race people who can choose how they want to identify, can't really say the same about "mixed sex" people unless you want to really get into the weeds with rare intersex conditions.

By the logic of extreme identities and allowing everything, that’s true. If you believe transgender is valid, why not accept transabled people, transracial, otherkin and so on? With any “but it’s a fetish!” argument, same was already applied to transgender (and it’s true lol). Someone has a fetish for being Korean, another has a fetish for being a woman or man.

I asked once a girl who insisted on being non-binary about the otherkin. I said if she accepts trans identities, she should accept that because otherwise she would be a bigot. Her first reaction was like “but that’s [otherkin] is insane” but I told her it’s a sign of being intolerant, she should accept some people want to live as another species, even fantasy ones. Then she was like “I don’t really like it but if they don’t bother anyone, who cares?”.

This is insane they can’t see they’re on the same level as these freaks. I remember hearing years before trans was a big issue about amputee fetishism. This is the same shit, just different categories.

I think a lot of people really don't know what those book burnings were. We're taught in elementary school that Nazis didn't want anyone to be able to read and books were the evil bringer of knowledge, certainly not that those books contained harmful perversions.

Taking this agreement further to its illogical conclusion, if some otherkin identifies as a deer and society must recognize them as such, then it is consistent that we be allowed to legally hunt them. Going further then, if we extend this to only one group of people ID'ing as things they are not, that would be inequitable to the rest. Therefore by their own logic, at the end of the clown world line, the most just course of action is to legally trophy hunt all trans* people. Just as long as when we stuff them and display them in the corner, it is with both their penis and dress intact.

Well it's why that idea can't take off as an ideology. A woman is still a human and has human rights that must be respected, so identifying as one doesn't make much difference on that front.

Identifying as an animal means you can't go and claim that your rights are being denied since making the claim that you have rights means you are identifying as a human and voids your original claim.
