Nobody is going to pay to see a queered up movie in the theater. Not even queers.

The way that Bros absolutely bombed, and the cope by the lead actor/writer would seem to bear that out.

Didn't help that it had a tone that would have been stale in 2004 and the lead was notorious for being an annoying bitch of a man who harasses people for entertainment. Honestly I'm hard pressed to find a less appealing film. Maybe if the corn kid did a movie. But at least that would star the corn kid.

Also I heard a take from a woman who likes these romance movies. That type of movie is generally watched by women but having 2 gay men makes it so the women can't put themselves into the story. She said that she would see the movie if she was going out but wouldn't make plans specifically to go see the movie.

And I'll add, I don't think my fellow gays particularly want to see a movie like this. It sold itself on stereotypes I'm super done with. Slightly camp gays having dating troubles? Nah sorry mate.

I prefer sci-fi movies.

Also back in the day brokeback mountain was really popular.

Like others say, mainstream gay films and TV are for women. I like some films about gay stuff(call me by your name made me cry like a bitch) but overall, yeah gimme some cool shit.

But you forget. If no one pays to see it, the team that made it can whine and cry and say they only wanted to make some heroes that look like this minority or want to have sex with things they want to have sex with, and the mean straight mean white mean cis mean men wouldn't LET THEM because they're mean! What's the REAL "Cancel Culture", huh?, and the same people who wouldn't see the movie will shovel that excuse down and raise them up as victims and give them sweet sweet activist/victim money!

The funniest example of the woke losing their minds when their product doesn’t sell was how the director of the latest Charlie’s Angels, Elizabeth Banks, promoted her film as “not being for men” and when it bombed she blamed men for not going to see it.

[–]LyingSpirit472 3 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 0 fun4 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Exactly. If you play both sides, you always come out as the victim. If the film succeeded, she could blame men for going to ogle the women.

You are right. Because us queers are too busy sucking each others dicks

If all of this wokeified media keeps failing, but studios are still churning more of them out and doubling down, then something's not adding up. One would think good ol' capitalism would've stepped in and corrected things by now.

I'm no conspiracy theorist but I can't help but wonder if there's some Illuminati-level shit going on where a cultural renaissance is being forced on us. None of the cultural changes in the past 10 years have been organic. It all seemingly came out of the fucking blue and all at once.

[–]Alienhunter糞大名 3 insightful - 2 fun3 insightful - 1 fun4 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Doubt it. If I was the Illuminati and wanted to influence the culture through media I would be simply adding the messages that I want to promote seamlessly into otherwise good films. Rememeber that box office returns do translate directly into viewership numbers and if those are down your not going to be reaching as many people. So this would be counter productive.

There's a very simple explanation. Hollywood types are full of themselves and studios are slow to adapt to audience taste. Activists are the most vocal and they're everywhere in media type positions. Once the stock prices really begin to reflect the lower viewership numbers then you'll see CEO get fired and a lot of woke projects shelved. Happened with WB fairly recently I think. They got a new CEO and he up and shelved that completed batwoman movie. Meaning that the movie that was already finished was deemed as so bad that it would hurt their brand beyond the simple box office losses.

They didn’t just shelve the Batgirl movie, they deleted the hard drives. The film doesn’t actually exist anywhere anymore.

From the one behind the scenes clip I’ve seen, it was going to be a real stinker. The actress they got to play Batgirl couldn’t even run in a convincing fashion, even when they put her in sneakers instead of the Batgirl costume boots. It was laughable.

Hopefully bringing on James Gunn and potentially Jon Favreau will make a difference to DC films, as will bringing back Henry Cavill to play a more comic book-like Superman, from what he’s hinted at it sounds as if he’s making it a requirement that they be more traditional with the role and storyline from now on.

Lead times. Films are in development for years before they get to the cinema. We probably have years more of shitty woke films to sit through - although we might see a change from Marvel after Black Panther:Wokanda Forever because they changed the line up after various MCU films and TV shows shitting the bed. BP:WF is looking fucking awful, some of the clips I’ve seen are embarrassing.

  1. They're not making money. These films are a loss leader for a destructive cultural revolution.

  2. Hollywood is so good at marketing films that they can make any turkey fly. Sure some will miss, but the studios only need a couple of hits a year to stay afloat.

They are making money.

All the Mavel films make huge profits.

Why not just take 2 seconds to check facts.

No it's more likely that economic factors have just essentially made original ideas financially too risky to endure. So they crowd source ideas based off of whatever fake posture most of the internet is taking, make a film that tries to please those people, and are surprised when everyone hates it because no one actually means anything they say online for attention.

[–]Newzok 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

There's likely subsidies of some kind that give an incentive. I can't think of anything beyond that, except everyone in Hollywood being so far up their own ass they can snort yesterday's coke. But yeah the wokery is on a massive scale now and I feel it's not organic too. How does every franchise get the same treatment, how do we see the same character types and signalling of what's the right thing? It seems like a concerted effort to me.

Like Drinker I'm super done with this shit. It sneaks into almost everything now. I feel it when the thing I'm watching gives me a nudge to feel the correct thing, and it makes my eyes roll.

Anyway, watch arthouse films and you get none of this shit. Just (usually) quality with minimal agenda and earnest expression.
