Jesse, what the fuck are you talking about???

I have never seen anyone, in my life, refuse to recognize the Final Fantasy series as games. These sound like niche arguments on dumbass subreddits or something. It's also stupid to say that because a plot is lighter in tone it's more attractive to teenage girls. Teenage girls are the ones watching shit like Pretty Little Liars, Riverdale, and various true crime docuseries, and writing dark!AUs of shit like Undertale where Flowey rapes Toriel at gunpoint. Completely misunderstanding the demographic you are whiteknighting for, very cool.

I also don't understand why people are still going off about "misogynistic" gamers in the year of our Lord 2022. I remember playing games at the time where misogyny in gaming was supposedly at its worst and you know what it was? 14 year old boys telling me to go make them a sandwich while feeling very self important. You know how I handled that? Another canned response about how I fucked their mom last night. Honest to god it was a non-problem.

Because they're willingly enslaved to an ideology where everyone is a stereotype, and the gamers' stereotype is that of misogynistic, unkempt, and fat neckbeards. To cast aside that stereotype would be to call into question all of the others that they cling to, and further cast doubt on the ideology itself.

you have to remember these people take anonymous tumblr posts as gospel truth. some 13 y/o called FF "mid" once and now they have to pour 2k words into TvTropes because there just isn't enough talking about anime on that website.

I used to have fun trolling people back in the day that they needed to throw out their FFVII cartridges if they were a true patriot. Any game where you play as a terrorist is Unamerican, and those game devs should be ashamed to call themselves such.

Because the most famous time when they went off about gamers being misogynists, people agreed and cried, gave them sweet sweet victim points, and gave them everything they wanted- so they know that shit works and will keep beating that dead horse until people finally catch on they're milking it for attention and tune them out.

Next question?

I think I heard something about someone making us a sandwich.

I could go a sandwich, yeah. Pickles, ham, turkey, some swiss and cheddar, green olives, and sourdough.

Mmmmm.

I've never played Final Fantasy so most of this is going over my head. But I get the feeling that even if I had played it, it would still go over my head. Like fandom rivalries over how cool a character is? Seriously? How could any sane person give a flying fuck about any of this? It's a fucking video game. And what in the fuck does this have to do with TV tropes?

And what in the fuck does this have to do with TV tropes?

To be fair, TV Tropes also documents tropes in movies, books and videogames, the same way Tumblr in Action also talks about Twitter, Instagram and Facebook.

No one worth giving a shit about in real life cares about whether or not you like the exact same games as them. You occaisionally find these people offline but they get ridiculed pretty fast.

I don't really like a bunch of the FF games but damn some people just act like you killed their puppy if you say FFVII kinda sucked. But I mean they're stupid for not knowing FFV is the best anyway because of our boys Butz Haram fantasy and the fact that he gets to kill a tree. Like God those dumb girls don't realize that the game is about some dude riding his ostrich around not giving a fuck who gets all the bitches. And they say it's for women. Hah.

Well, it makes sense they claim it since FF 15 really was one of the mask off moments, with people going "how DARE any woman character run around in something less than a burqa, any man who shows the slightest attraction to one raped the character!" and "Look at the FF15 heroes' bulges! We need some kneepads to play this game, girls!" in the same breath.

I'll be on the veranda, since the people who wrote those claims are on the cross.

I believe it was all the way back in the early 00s or late 90s when we had this dumb argument that video games created violence and that there was no female representation.

If i remember the 90s was mostly about the violence after Columbine happened and then statistics proved that to be completely wrong and people shifted to the female representation thing in the 00s.

The immediate response was Sammus Aran from the Metroid games and these people were baffled that gamers could understand that the "suit of armor" was a female hero. This makes a lot of sense because this is when the trans issue started to emerge and people started to reinforce old gender stereotypes.

Recently like within the last 5 years Kotaku actually pushed an article complaining that Sammus Aran existed because she was a female which didn't run around looking like a pretty princess. That article really rubbed me the wrong way. Like this is where supposedly woke writing has come. Criticizing strong female characters for not acting like empty headed fucktoys.

I knew parents in the 90's during the height of the violent game freakout that wouldn't let their kids play any games with female characters because it encouraged violence against women. At the same time there were other parents that wouldn't let their kids play games with female protagonists because it was "immoral for women to fight".

I guess the social outrage needed to be targeted towards something after DND. It's pretty funny to me now thinking that they were up arms over games like Doom compared to the level of graphic violence we see in games now. Maybe there was some truth to the desensitizing argument. Though I can't really say that virtual violence has any bearing on real life.

There's an old John Stossel piece floating around from the 80's where he's interviewing parents taking issue about their children's newfound fascination with killing goombas from super Mario bros. It's pretty funny to watch now. I wish there was more documentation about parents freaking out about comic books back in the 50's would love to read their hot takes today. It's always baffled me how the people who complain about their kids not being able to tell the difference between real life and fantasy are so scared of fantasy like it's real life. Maybe they can't tell the difference? Then again some people are too stupid to realize and I suppose you don't want your kids trying to ape Bart Simpsons attempt to skateboard off the roof, some kid might try.

Sephiroth cancelled on Twitter for alleged scandalous treatment of woman involving forced penetration. Sephiroth denies this, claims he wasn't even present, blames mother instead.

Barret to have a have new walkie talkie arm to promote communication, and the word terrorist has been changed to hippie.

I wish I could erase those stupid ass video games from history.

But these are one of the most famous games? Hello???

As much as I can see some gamers are misogynistic, let’s not fall in the trap of “women, always oppressed!!!” because there are some prominent women in the industry too, much more nowadays... As well as popular game characters who are women. Cue some portion of the “women” concerned about it are troons.
