Participants in the mass participation event at next year's London Marathon will be able to register as non-binary, rather than male or female.

The change, which does not affect the elite races, will be a "significant step" in improving the race's inclusion said director Hugh Brasher.

"Changes such as this demonstrate our commitment to making the London Marathon for everyone," he added.

Boston Marathon announced a similar change earlier this week.

The elite races and their prizes will continue to be divided into male and female categories only.

Seems like pointless pandering, but if I was a betting man I wouldn’t bet against this being a dip of the little toe to judge the warmth of the reception. As the song goes, if we tolerate this…

Yeah, considering that the races that involve prizes aren't going to be handing out a "non-binary" prize, it definitely seems like either (a) pointless pandering, or (b) a small handful of angsty they/thems complained that they wanted to race but weren't male or female.

The really annoying thing is that these people constantly preach that "sex" and "gender" are two different things, yet when categories like "male" and "female" show up, they go, "I'm neither male nor female!" which is not only a lie but counter to their claims.

Be interesting if they add a Non-binary category to the finishing stats, both to see the demographic split of those claiming NB status (my guess is vastly more women than men) and then the finishing times, especially as these will be the non-elite club and charity runners. We might see this used as “evidence” in the trans in sport argument, especially if female NBs finish en masse more than male NBs (with no regards for the fitness of the runners).

After the NYC marathon the enby who won "their" category was complaining about not getting any prize money for his win. Dude finished behind 895 men and over a hundred women. But he thinks he should get prize money for his respectable but far from outstanding marathon time, just because he has special gender feels.

Fuck it, start giving out prize money. See how many of those 895 men and over a hundred women suddenly discover they're non binary too

Keep up with the times! The current narrative is that sex and gender are one and the same.

Or sex and gender are completely different, but all the things you thought were determined by sex are actually determined by gender. Or something along those lines, hard to keep up with their bullshit when it changes on a daily basis

It does, that's why non-binary people have taken the term "enby", pronounced the same but spelled differently.

Isn't it SO CUTE YOU COULD JUST GOUGE OUT YOUR EYES WITH RUSTY BARBED WIRE?!?!

Really a participation event has participants? Did a 6 year old write this?

    “Mass participation” versus elite race.

The charity runners, club runners and legends wearing fancy dress as opposed to the pros running for standings. So “the participants in the mass participation event” actually makes sense.

I agree it makes sense but it's redundant and lazy writing. But it's 2022. I need to get used to the fact that journalistic standards are a thing of the past.

Is that a contest about winning or whining?

So if the non-binaries want to compete for a prize, do they self-ID a sex or how does that work?

You have a DNA test done on the winners. If they have X or Y chromosomes then you let them identify as disqualified since they signed up in the wrong category. Of they've got Z Q Σ or any other non-binary chromosomes then they get the prize.

What if their X or Y chromosomes self-identify as ß, ¿, æ or ł? Did you consider their trans-chromosomal status? No? Bigot!

    Trans-chromosomal👏 rights👏 are👏 Eukaryotic👏 rights👏!

They’re here, they’re bundles of genetic material with companion protein structures, get used to it! Ain’t no party like a trans-chromosome party ‘cause a trans-chromosome party don’t stop!

    Obvious answer:

As a marathon runner, they cannot stop running for long distances. As such, they did not pause, let alone say "no chromo"...meaning their chromosomes exist as identified.

Extremely important for all two nb marathon runners

    [–]Datachost 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (0 children)

There's some female NB middle distance runner who made some big deal out of "Nobody's objecting to me competing" a while back. Yeah, because you're a woman competing against other women, you divvy
