There are a couple of dozen tweets after these, but the craziness doesn't subside at all.

From what I can tell the origins of this issue stem from her being given an exhibition on Basquiat at the Guggenheim after she'd previously had success with it at her Alma Mater. She then let this go to her head, started acting like Billy Big Bollocks, flinging accusations of racism around, though it seems the Guggenheim certainly didn't act optimally. The cherry on top of this whole thing is her previously having told someone else not to idolise Basquiat, because he was a dope fiend and a homo (her words)

Oh, I do so hope someone recorded or screencapped that, there's nothing like the thrill of waving around someone's "oh, but you said this before" moment when they're being sanctimonious pricks.

The whole thing is fucking wild. The thread as a whole, her saying Basquiat is arguably the most popular artist in the world (which really just shows what kind of privileged bubble she lines in, because nowhere outside of upper class art snob circles is Basquiat the most popular artist), people actually trying to defend it.

And apparently she has ThreadReader blocked. I don't know why anyone would do that

For some reason irrational people never want to talk or discuss anything ever, tee hee

LITERALLY demanding that I speak to her

(Picture unrelated)

I'm surprised they bothered to put up a picture at all. An ordinary manipulator would at least think "hmm, this piece of 'evidence' makes me look bad, actually." Really goes to show this person's mental state.

I don't think she's even a manipulator, I think she's a genuinely unhinged person, who's managed to garner some sympathy from people too high off their own virtue to realise they're not helping (that's the modern arts scene, I guess). You can't really act surprised that nobody wants to work with you, when this is how you act towards the people offering to.

She's both.

"Nobody is reporting on MY EXPERIENCE!!"

"Hello I'm a reporter who wants to write about your experience. Can we talk?"

"No fuck you racist how dare you demand to talk with ME!"

Clearly this person is a sociopath.

Literally every time a celeb moans "Hollywood gave me the reputation of being a problem then I couldn't find work" you know this is pretty much what they are like, if not worse.

I wouldn't say every time, there are legitimate cases of actors getting blackballed for pissing off the wrong producer, because they refused to play ball (or refused their advances). But a lot of the time it's definitely that they're genuinely difficult people to work with, Edward Norton is a notorious example

Frankly even most the Weinstein victims who were successfully blacklisted were pretty crazy.

If they are normal they can get work outside of that bubble.

Rose McGowan is pretty crazy but she managed to hold down a job in Charmed. She might claim her career was ruined but was she really going to become a start in Hollywood if she hadn't got there by 22.

Art is retarded. Any time I can smear shit on a canvas and sell it for thousands because I call it the modern take on our cities, you're dealing with retards.

Basquiat was a drug addled loser who threw paint at walls. Done. Who cares?

[–]Alienhunter糞大名 2 insightful - 2 fun2 insightful - 1 fun3 insightful - 2 fun -  (1 child)

Art is truly retarded. Which is why I appreciate the art scene. All I gotta do is pull out a huge stogie start acting like a twat and ignoring social norms, put on a stupid hat, make some collection of my trash into an art with glue and glitter and then say something minimally witty about it representing the empty existence of society because of the capitalistic patriarchy. Then that capitalistic patriarchy nods and agrees and gives me a million dollars so I can further my stogie and whiskey hobby. It's so refined! That's how you stick it to the man!

Hahahahaha nice. This guy gets it! I'm probably gonna steal this and use it real life. You're an inspiration.

You should probably do some heroin then shit, piss, and bleed all over a piece of notebook paper and hang it in a gallery and name it "Military Industrial Complex."

I smell at least $400,000.

This is actually quite rational. in what world does anyone have the right to ask this strong independent woman a question let alone waste her precious time with inane prattling's and rude intonations inquiring about the authors life. How dare the Atlantic take the time to write about this stunning and powerful being. its such insults are nary more then plebeians attempting to obstruct the wonderment of this queens melanin. Its racist, transphobic and hateful. And I for one think this journalist needs reeducation for an indefinite period on the tax payers expense. Praise Kamala.
