The same logic of that comes from the X-Men theory of "cure autism", though:

Storm, has cool weather powers and is worshipped in her homeland as a goddess for her power: "Mutants don't need to be cured."

Rogue, who's power is to kill anyone she touches: "...uh, actually I'd quite like to be cured, thank you."

Same story- it's never the people who have actual problems in life who hate the concept of curing themselves. It's always the people who either have very mild issues with the disability or, in all likeliness, know in their heart that they're faking it to be special.

It's the latter. A lot of people speaking for autistics don't have a diagnosis. They claim they don't need one because they did "extensive research" on the topic. The more insane ones claim that "it's not a disease, so medicine has nothing to do with it" or "no neurotypical specialist is competent to diagnose someone with autism." Others claim to have been misdiagnosed by incompetent doctors.

The least insane group is also the most insidious one. They claim that self-diagnosis should be valid because getting an actual diagnosis is expensive, and finding a specialist who does that is hard. Why do I consider them insidious? Because they frequently spread misinformation about the actual cost and availability of a professional diagnosis. The less actually diagnosed autistics, the more legitimacy a fake diagnosis gets.

I agree. Shit, it's worse for people to NOT get diagnosed.

You can't afford it? On the contrary, if you think you might be autistic, you can't afford NOT to get the diagnosis. If you get a diagnosis, you'll qualify as disabled for social security. They'll get you into Section 8 housing and you get low-income, rent-controlled apartments. They'll give you food stamps to pay your food bills. Shit, SSI/SSDI flat-out cuts you a check; THEY'LL GIVE YOU MONEY IF YOU'RE DISABLED. With all that in play, FIND a way to afford it. You have to not buy that anime figurine or video game, do it- hell, put that over food and rent. Shit, you have to even sleep on the streets and Dumpster dive or shoplift food to survive, do it in order to pay for a doctor to diagnose you...hell, that's a benefit if you can't afford it. If you get thrown in jail they'll give you a psychiatrist free and you can get diagnosed that way too. There's no doctor in your town? MAKE IT to a town there is one. Take the bus- shit, if you have no other options, hitchhike if you have to. DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO GET THAT DIAGNOSIS. And if you tried hitchhiking, tried sleeping on the streets, you can't even afford to shoplift food and you have to eat your own shit to survive, and you still can't afford the diagnosis? Just make the appointment and just...don't pay the medical bill. Not like you probably haven't paid bills in the past, and once you get the diagnosis they can't...NOT...say you're diagnosed if you don't pay.

Is it hard to get onto Social Security with an autism diagnosis? Yes, it will be very hard to get on with a diagnosis. But I can guarantee you that it's IMPOSSIBLE if you have a self-diagnosis.

Someone was laughing at me the other day for saying that people get registered as blind. "It's so funny you think the government has a list of all the blind people" or something like that.

Ordinary working people have no idea how the system works.

In Scotland 1 in 5 people is registered disabled. No way are that many people actually disabled, they are claiming and faking disability to top up their income and it's all quite open in the communities. But then you say this to a middle class person who has never lived on benefits or been near a council estate and they will simply be horrified you could even think such a thing and never even get ton the point the might consider it true.

Wait why would they doubt that? Like not just for benefits and stuff but just getting help in general if you are blind? They'd probably need you to be registered.

It's just another world to most people.

[–]Haylstorm 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

It's just out there. You have to register for so many things even normally? So the idea that it wouldn't be is more out there. Have they never done any paperwork ever lol?

Honestly it CAN be hard where I am. CAHMS is notoriously slow with some people having huge waiting times or getting caught in loops of who to talk to. But in those cases that I've known the parents usually mention something is wrong and they're on the waiting list. Which is usually enough for people to accept because it's a known thing how slow/difficult it can be. Though you also don't really get a referral to CAHMS unless it's bad.

There's a lot of overlap between genderfolx and self-diagnosed autistics (especially on reddit). They think these things make them cool and unique, and woe betide anyone who says anything negative about the reality of either.

Of course what they really have is Narcissistic Personality Disorder, they are clinical arseholes.

That's not as cute and cuddly as aspie.

There is a way to cure 99% of gender dysphoria: don't let kids on the internet. This is largely a sociogenic affliction. Mass psychosis.

There is a really good sci-fi book called Steel Beach by John Varley and the technology is advanced to the point where actual gender swaps are possible. Published in 1992, it's not modern troonery.

I don't think anyone would care if transitioning could literally change your biology and wasn't just horror show medical mutilations that were only superficial.

Maybe. Men and women aren't interchangeable mentally. And you see these transwomen dudes who claim they have a female brain but have all typical young male interests like anime and video games.

And here I am gardening and cooking and it never occurred to me I'm not a dude. Thank god I wasn't born more recently, since I don't have the manliest of interests they'd probably try to convince me I was a tranny.

What I just wrote is a bit contradictory, I get that but so's this clownish ideology. Since gender swapping isn't possible, all you can do is pretend to be the other gender.

And I don't even care about that, you do you, but I do not want to be forced to pretend along.

I've heard some Christian preachers say it's all caused by demonic possession, and to be honest I think there is some value in using that allusion. Not that I think mental health conditions are caused by literal demons, but they definitely seem to get exasperated by certain stimuli and relationships, it's of little wonder to me that people would see that and assume one was possessed. Religious ways of thinking also tend to condition the mind to outright reject certain things as well so could be seen as a means of protection.

The internet itself is quite dangerous to give kids unfettered access to. I think all of this essentially boils down to various kinds of porn addiction.

Someone replied back by saying this"I'm sure by the time you do find a cure you'd get about the same backlash to it as if you tried to cure autism."

You could have claimed you have crippling autism, and demanded a severe apology.

The funny thing is that i am on the autism spectrum and from my experience it can be both a blessing and a curse.Like sometimes noticing things and having a full dedication to something can be a positive cause you would know a lot about it.However,it's a curse cause for example to some it can make you fearful of advancement or afraid of big changes in your life.Of course if there was a way to cure autism then there are some that i've seen online who would gladly take it.Gender dysphoria on the other hand i have never once herd of one positive thing about it.Which is why i find it so bizarre how it's celebrated like it's something good when it's not.

Yeah I've known a parent with a non-verbal autistic kid who often has meltdowns. She'd go for the cure in a flash if only so her kid can experience life with less issues. Some people might call it selfish to choose for her kid but I don't think she's wrong in wanting an easier life for her kid where he'd be able to communicate more easily at least. Every parent wants the best for their kid i'd hope.

If there were actually a cure to Autism then I think your see it widely adopted. The backlash we've seen now is just because grifters have jumped on offering a bunch of pseudo science quackery to take advantage of distressed parents. It's similar to the gay conversion camps, modern medical science basically doesn't know what causes people to be gay so naturally it's impossible to fix it if you don't even understand the cause. Naturally that didn't stop opportunists from running torture camps that terrorized the kids and scared them straight, at least until they could leave home at 18.

Never forget the doctor who created a way for babies to hear and the deaf community actually said they were being "genocided"

With regard to transsexuals, there's some experimental research suggesting that abnormal prenatal and neonatal hormone levels are what's responsible for these people's incorrect ideas about being the other sex.

Don't confuse transsexuals with transgenders, the latter are narcissists, porn addicts, confused autistic kids or troubled teens groomed over the internet.

How to distinguish between the two? For transsexuals, their unfounded ideas of being the opposite sex start in early childhood. For regular transgender trannies, it's only during adolescence or adulthood that they start desiring to mutilate themselves.

It would kind of suck to have to change who you are, but unfortunately it's necessary for things like this. Otherwise you're just going to be condemned to a life of misery or kill yourself. And it would help if we would stop seeing gender as so fundamental to a person.

[–]jet199 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

It definitely doesn't suck to change who you are if you are screwing up your life and hurting yourself. In fact, it's great.

It is after the fact, but it requires giving up some autonomy.

All my self improvement I've done on my own under my own initiative.

Mostly the people around you want to to stay the same forever because that's easier for them to deal with.
