What the parents should say:

"Grandma was raised in a time when teenagers were not obsessed with gender. Instead they were focused on how to be self-reliant and prepared for life's challenges. Your generation is focused on how to be self-entitled and prepared for making Tiktok videos. There's a big difference. Maybe if you had a modicum of respect for your grandma you wouldn't be such a loser."

The most unrealistic part of that whole narcissistic tantrum of a scene was when the waiter just casually refers to her as "sir" 😂😂

And people are shocked that Netflix animation is losing funding and HBOMax is cutting shows

I was checking the twitter replies and it does seem like people are divided on this.Thankfully though some are calling it out.

It's a sign of bad parenting in all cases.

MANY such cases.

The first time I heard of Steven Universe I thought it’s just some new cartoon with shitty art style that started to become more prevalent. Later I realized it’s ugly AND cringe and dangerous cartoon.

What's dangerous about it? When my son was younger, I read from multiple sources about how great it was, so we watched the first couple of episodes but we were both bored and switched off part way through the second one. Since then a lot of the people I know in real life who love it, are people who's opinion I don't respect, which has made me never want to go back to it. They also love that new She-Ra series which I fucking hated and makes the Kevin Smith He-Man look like a masterpiece.

I mean, of course it’s not like watching this show will turn anyone into SJW fanatic, I meant “dangerous” in a sense that some people still use media as a reference about society and this somehow legitimizes such stuff like accepting non-binary genders etc. Of course we don’t believe that but I find it sad that there are people who should get real help and instead, due to that shows, they might feel their delusions are valid.

Just to clarify, I wasn't doubting your description of it as dangerous. I think that pushing a lot of gender ideology on children is definitely potentially dangerous. I just never got far enough into the show to see if it has any. I have no problem with age appropriate depictions of crushes/relationships, both opposite and same sex, on kids shows. But as far as gender ideology for children, all I want him to see is kids being free to like whatever they like.

[–]Alienhunter糞大名 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

Most of what I've seen of them it's not so much that the content is objectionable towards children as such, it's that the attitudes in the show towards such things are very unrealistic and the propose an, I would call it and idealized utopian immature view, of human relationships, kinda how like a teenage girl might hold very unrealistic and immature views on romance and marriage and the like.

I've had the argument with people before that if we want to explore such ideas and gender and sexuality in fiction, there are age appropriate ways of doing so but the main problem is kids aren't so good at differentiating between fact and fiction here because they lack experience, a fact that is taken advantage of by pedophiles constantly. So anytime someone is trying to teach your kid about sex there's a pretty high chance that person might be a pedophile so we have to be very transparent and cautious with such things.

Like there's this fictional idea that's been done for ages of boys and girls swapping places and learning to have empathy towards the other side, that's a fair idea if handled right. The problem is now that coupled with societal attitudes towards the whole thing kids might walk away with ideas like they can "actually" change their sex, when the reality is more like "You can go through significant pain, cost and hardship to maybe appear somewhat more like the opposite sex but not really".

I see, no worries. I admit I haven’t got into it at all - never watched episodes, I was only aware of it, various themes I from it I knew were discussed on Tumblr etc.; and then learning more while reading about SJWs who make content related to it. I also think the gender ideology shouldn’t be present there at all. Reminds me of how I learned about Cartoon Network posting some educational picture about pronouns - using characters from SU or some others in such drawing style; I definitely wouldn’t see it coming if I went back to the CN I know from my youth.

[–]Alienhunter糞大名 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (2 children)

I mean when you have stupid cartoons teaching about pronouns it is very hard to take it seriously as anything other than childish make-believe. Which of course, it is. A kid playing make believe making up dumb names or pretending to be a cat or something is cute but if it's an adult doing that it's cringe as fuck.

[–]FlyingKangaroo 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (1 child)

Agree, there is also some difference of course: childish make-believe can be entertaining, fun. Helping them to be creative.

Those who fall for the pronoun nonsense are narcissists obsessed with sexuality and their own ideas of gender, wanting to have power over everyone else (by people accepting and validating their identity). Also, the aspect of grooming, various other negative things that trans people help to accelerate. And of course some degree of further worsening of mental state.

It could be same as putting a message in the cartoons that “you should support our political ideology and fight everyone over it or else you’ll be miserable, anyone who will not agree with you also might make you feel miserable”.

[–]Alienhunter糞大名 2 insightful - 1 fun2 insightful - 0 fun3 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

As it's the common refrain they say "Trans people will kill themselves if they aren't validated. Do you want us to kill ourselves." To which the simple answer is no, but I suspect validation won't stop you from killing yourself.

I have a great deal of empathy for people suffering from gender disphoria especially in our current climate where it seems the messages you'll get are either unquestioning acceptance or abject hatred with no room for any nuance or subtlety. That alone is alienating and will drive the suicidal ideation further. It's gotten to the point where even expressing concern will either get you painted as a so called "concern troll" for pointing out pretty obvious downsides or trade-offs that you will experience and I think that leads to a silencing of truly concerned and critical voices. It basically just alienates people from each other, their friends and families and society. Eventually that just leaves them with a friend group that has no loyalty ties besides unwavering support for their cult-like fanaticism towards this particular topic, and a for profit medical system that has sold them a package of "spend loads of money on hormones and surgeries or else you'll kill yourself" who will be perfectly happy to milk them dry until they have nothing else to spend, and probably ultimately leads to their healthcare providers proposing euthanasia once they are no longer able to extract profit from them.
