Many psychologists and clinicians never accepted the 'affirmation' model, and the Dutch Protocol was misapplied from the start. The Tavistock scandal exploded how those concerns were silenced and critics censured.

The same thing is happening in the US but the decentralized, profit-driven model of health care makes it that much more difficult to address.
