Well let's hope it's just my experience then. But this happened to almost everyone I know irl at the exact same time it started taking over in online spaces.

From I can gather it went something like this: when BLM and Antifa rioted and looted and burned entire towns to the ground over non-existent racism, I think that image made conservatives see the threat as anarchist rather than totalitarian. So at that point they did a 180 and instead of emphasizing individual rights and small government, law and order is now their most important virtue. It also created a larger problem of guilt by association. Up to this point conservatives usually opposed identity politics and believed in simple equality. The left constantly claimed they were racist, sexist, everything-phobic bigots, but those claims rarely held water. But I think the rioting scared them so much that now they're afraid of anything associated with the left, including any minority they claim to represent. So lately a small bit of actual racism, sexism, etc. has gained traction among them. The recent threat has made them into partisan purists, so if you voice concern over this they grow afraid that you might be an enemy in disguise and will cast you out, even though it's exactly what they would've said 2 years ago. But they no longer have any principles, the only thing that matters now is exterminating the threat. And you can bet that people like John MacArthur are taking advantage of this fear to sway the masses.

For some reason the biggest new issue with them is gender roles. I'm not talking about transgenderism, I mean they are now obsessed with following the "natural order" where every man works and every woman stays home and raises a family, and they act stereotypical at all times. This is tragic, since it was largely them who defeated this nonsense in the first place. And the strongest argument against transgenderism was that sexist stereotypes need not force someone to switch genders to be themselves. Now the only things they can come up with are "it's degenerate" or "it offends God", which are both basically "I don't like it". And I don't even think they know why they don't like it anymore, only it's associated with their enemies so therefore it's bad. A few months ago one of my family members said I should join the CCP because I said gender roles are stupid. She never talked like this before, and would've certainly agreed with me until recently. This is happening to almost everyone I know, and it's taken off online as well. And if they're just going to become the other side of the same coin as the left, this country is doomed.
