How dare they pick the best squad they could?

Frankly it's pretty racist to suggest that you should choose less good people to be more diverse. Are you saying black women are less able? That they need the extra help rather than being able to get the role on their own?

Um, eckscuse me sweaty, this "pick the best squad they could" is not just the anti-equity claim white supremacists use, but it's flat-out wrong. If the England women cared about putting their best squad out there, why is it 23 cis women? They could have just as easily went to every Premiereship team and gotten 23 non-binary folx who weren't good enough for the men's team, put them on the squad, and you guarantee that it's coming home. Clearly, transphobia and the whiteskinnycishetdiagnosednonDreamstanpatriarchy mattered more than "their best squad", so you can pick based on identity as well.

Do better, Venmo me, flagellate yourself.

Whoa I need you to slow your roll there buckarino. Do you understand how problematic your statement is?. You are clearly trying to support the agenda of the cis heteronormative neurotypical bioessentialist patriarchy. And their goals to further oppress marginalized communities on the behalf of the tyrannically fascistic western capitalistic neo futuristic bio luminescent industrialized colonialistic hegemon oligarchy.

This is deeply troubling because the perpetual paradigm shifting used to continually commit literal genocide on trans ideology is regularly murdering the most vulnerable folx. Do you sleep well at night knowing you are contributing to a social stigmatization of silenced beings who are trying to speak out only to be forcibly shut down by the most subversive systemic oppression that can be distributed in the most overtly covert way?

I know this will be difficult but I believe we can make things right in the world. However in order to do so we must abolish English women and enforce mandatory racial and gender quotas. I need you to dig deep and begin the process of unlearning your deeply seated traumas so you can begin to unpack your harshly imparted biases. Only then will you be able to truly synergize with your own inner femininity.

I truly believe if we come together as a collective and try we can create a world that is pure. A world that is full of life, love and happiness (except for terfs and Dk bowlesing who will be locked up in male prisons for their trans-gressions). I truly believe a world where my female flute can be played whenever I say under the punishment of death for refusing is just around the corner. A world where its safe and security of the gay race and a future for trans babies is secured.

But in order to do that I need you to be better, educate yourself and submit to our whims. OR ELSE!.

Seriously what's with this horribly outdated practice of having cis-girls on the women's team at all? Do they want to lose? Don't they know that trans-girls are much better at women's sports?

You know what's better than being fair? Winning. Let's East German Olympic team the shit out of this. Go UK fuck those other wimpy girly sports with fucking manly women's sports. A bloke in a wig and a dress is a woman bigot and you're only crying because you lost to a girl!

On the one hand, you are right.

On the other hand...it's England. They'll STILL find a way to lose the World Cup.

This article: "Throw in a black woman quota so that young black girls will have someone to emulate."

Next article: "Young black girls leaving football because black women appointed to the pro squads are only showcasing failure."

Final article: "We need a black only female football league because the black diversity hires on the mixed teams suck because racism."

The whole tone of this is wrong. They are selected on many criteria - performance, fitness, tactical ability, not what they look like.

Maybe.

Heard of a Eastern European judge of an X-Factor type show who decided who the winner would be on the basis of how good they were in bed.

Nothing to stop that kind of thing happening in sports.

Narcissistic journos who cannot relate to anyone who look and act exactly like them writing about how girls cannot relate to anyone who don't look or act like them. Ok.

Does anyone wanna tell them that a ton of south americans were inspired by DBZ and Saint Seiya, Japanese creations full of casts that are not even the same race? Heck Goku and Vegeta are not even humans.

Here's the thing, really you would expect football teams to more or less reflect a country's makeup or at least the makeup of its working classes in the urban centres, given it's a fairly cheap sport and is therefore going to attract people who can't afford much more than a ball and shoes. And the England's women team doesn't really do that. But the other thing there is, we also know why that's the case (low upkeep from puberty onwards, a lot of players from ethnic backgrounds being discouraged by their parents, etc.) and have put programmes in place to try and combat that. But that shit takes time. This is just another example of people wanting immediate results for something that has a long-term solution.

Even then, though, the makeup of its country ties into why there'd still be the same reason for a lack of success even if they did that. Ultimately, football's TOO popular in the UK, and that's why the England women will never succeed.

People can wonder why the US women are the gold standard in women's soccer, and ultimately the main reason for it is pretty obvious: Soccer wasn't all that popular in the US until the 1970s, which is also around when youth soccer had only really become a thing in America...and that just so happened to be the same time that youth sports were becoming co-ed over and over again, so there was never really a point in time where it was abnormal for boys and girls to play youth soccer against each other.

Even if men's puberty would soon mean they'd leave girls in the dust on the athletic field, it did mean that young girls in America had spent all of their formative years playing boys at soccer and holding their own or even thriving, continuing to follow the craft, getting better and better as time goes on...and that made the US women so battle-tested that the rest of the world is HELPLESS against the US women's team.

Title IX meant US universities had to offer sports scholarships to women and soccer was one of the sports that they started handing out scholarships for. The USNWT can’t beat a decent male youth team, but the money and training they did at university set them up to dominate in soccer where the rest of the world just didn’t have the training programmes. Now women’s football is being pushed by FIFA, and places like England are investing in the professional women’s game the dominance of the US Women’s National Team will start to slip.

The difference that investment in training makes can be seen in the radical difference between GB Olympic performance before and and after the changes to funding, they went from embarrassing failure in Barcelona and Sydney to sitting high on the medals table in London, Beijing etc.

Proper investment in training makes a huge difference, and that was what gave the USNWT their edge.

[–]LyingSpirit472 1 insightful - 1 fun1 insightful - 0 fun2 insightful - 1 fun -  (0 children)

While you're right the USWNT had proper investment in training, why did US universities start with soccer scholarships? Because youth soccer being co-ed since it became a thing in the US meant it was one of the first sports there was a large enough amount of women who were good players to field teams...and more specifically, it's one of only three team sports that have a lot of women who are good at it [and investing in team sports are very necessary because they're the only real way to make enough of a dent to cover the American football team...and most colleges would cut academics before they cut their excuse for alumni to come back to the school to get drunk on a Saturday and pretend they're still college kids into their 70s.]

Youth soccer being co-ed from an early age IS a big part of it where it just ISN'T in England or overseas. You can invest in women's football NOW, sure, but there's nothing that's going to match up with "when you're kids, you're just not inviting the girls onto the pitch with you, because even just kicking around the ball with your friends could be enough to get a scout for your neighborhood's soccer academy to sign you right there and have a chance to go pro, and having some girls out there could make them not know you're good enough for it" (another difference the US has over European football, since the US has the draft system for their pro leagues including MLS; only MLB teams in Latin America are able to do the "sign any player who looked good in a sandlot game and if even one of them becomes a star, you profit" method European teams do.) Again, men will just get bigger and stronger in puberty, so inevitably the women will fall behind...but it's that time BEFORE that happens when they're kids that you can make girls become really good at the sport first.

Men's team is more diverse, so it is an interesting question why this isn't mirrored in the women's squad. I assume it has something to do with culture and, in extention, interest.
