Wouldn't the term homosexual be preferable to gays and lesbians since the later is clearly gendered language and excluded non-binary homosexuals?

The sign is too close to the signifier with homosexual; the reality-based definition is baked into the word itself and we can't have that because it correctly implies that homos aren't interested in banging trans people of the opposite sex.
