I personally think giving them any rights was a mistake.
That's a pretty shitty perspective but it does make sense only if you look at it from their framing that giving them rights means living in a complete fantasy.
They need rights such as being free from violence etc but they say stuff like being polite and respecting their new name and pronoun actually is not good enough if you yourself don't believe it and only do it to be polite.
