We laugh, but I seem to recall an assault prosecution where the victim, an elderly woman, was denied the full amount of compensation for the assault she suffered because she referred to her attacker, who had at that point actually been convicted of the assault, as “he” instead of the scumbag’s preferred “she” in her victim impact statement. The judge, following The Bench Book, the guide for judges, reprimanded the victim.

It's such a bizarre stance to take, it's like the guidance in reporting the University of Central Lancashire released this week, which basically said "Don't assume rapists are trans just because they say they are". And there was a shitstorm over it, to the point where they pulled it. Predators have over the years pretended to be police officers or even become police officers, teachers, priests, a number of positions that require years of training, just to get easier access to prey or would pull any bullshit after the fact to try and garner sympathy. But pretend to be trans? Heaven forfend! What group wants to be associated with rapists?

If there were a rapist whose whole thing was dressing up as a boy scout, you can bet your arse the Boy Scouts would be rushing to put out a statement saying "Well he's obviously not a scout. He's pretending to be one for whatever reason"

Like what? Do they think that it's a special group that no one would lie about being or something? Fucking idiots.

I think they know it isn't, but also admitting that risks the whole thing tumbling down. As soon as you start to say some predators are faking it, who else might be?

Worse than that:

The more insidious thing to remember is that both of the examples u/Datachost and u/ClassroomPast6178 gave took place in the United Kingdom.

This is important, because under UK laws, rape is defined as something that can only be done by a man to a woman. (If a woman rapes a man or it's a same-sex rape, then it's sexual assault in the UK- which isn't just semantics, it also has a lower sentence.)

If trans rapists can successfully force the courts to make their female victim accept them as a woman, then the trans man can also pivot to "she admitted it! She admitted I am a woman! That means I could not have raped her!". Best case, they get that lower sexual assault charge/sentence...and worst case, if the court didn't charge them with anything but rape, they get to walk free.

Nope, that’s wrong.

What makes rape a crime that, in the UK, only a man can commit is that the act is defined as penetration with a penis (Section 1, Sexual Offences Act 2003), not the identity claimed or bestowed upon the holder of the penis. The pronouns used in the definition of the act have no bearing on whether forcing your girlcock into someone against their will is rape…the act of penis going somewhere it wasn’t wanted is what makes it rape and not “just” a sexual assault.

The rapist known as Karen White was charged, prosecuted and found guilty of two rapes whilst claiming to be a woman.

I’m not sure why you think a man penetrating a man with a penis isn’t rape…that’s just plain bizarre. Reynhard Sinaga was convicted of 136 rapes against men and the police think the number may actually be hundreds more (and there’s another case going on right now where there may be hundreds of male victims of rape).

So in short, no one is getting let off of a rape charge by a pronoun technicality and same-sex rape is prosecuted as rape.

I agree. Part of child protection training that is hammered home quite heavily, or was when I last had the “full monty” training and not just a refresher session, is that sexual abusers will go to absolutely ludicrous lengths to get access to children or vulnerable people. Now, I don’t think adults should be subject to the kinds of protections that we have in place for children and the vulnerable, but surely it is only sensible that we don’t create massive blind spots in our guards, no?

I think the effort that is put in to deflect any attempt to bring reason or reality into the situation is fairly telling, and that outside of the actual gender dysphoric individuals (who are suffering actual delusions), they all know that this is make-believe, every single person, and they cannot tolerate the little boy pointing and laughing at the Emperor, because it brings the whole house of cards down. Why they’re doing it probably varies, fetish, power over others, influence, money…but they all fucking know.

I used to work for a children's charity where I was responsible for assessing and training volunteers, in non-child contact roles. Part of my training was learning that we had to do full background checks on all volunteers, even if they never came near children because in the past there had been cases of men who had volunteered in the most menial roles for years/decades built trust and eventually accessed vulnerable children who they went on to abuse. Years of literally dealing with rubbish so they could eventually, possibly get access to victims. There is very little predators won't do to abuse. They will play a long game that most people can't naturally quite get their head around.

So as a society we have had to learn and understand what they will do. We have had to put in so many safeguards, especially for children. And right as we've just started learning that and making our children safer than they have ever been. Our society collectively takes leave of it's senses and creates a sacred caste that can do anything unquestioned because they are the biggest victims of all and no-one would ever pretend to be one, for even just a few minutes, to access victims. It's fucking mind-boggling how stupid this is.

There was a researcher, who I believe works at Staffordshire University as a professor of criminology. He used to interview sex offenders as part of his research and his one main takeaway from it, was that predators will lie to your face without blinking

Yes, I know being in contact with children violates my parole, but I needed to take that job working at a kid's birthday party

You see, the thing is I'm a Buddhist and visiting Cambodia is a religious journey for me

That guidance only came out last week and was taken down a couple of days ago due to complaints.

The guidance they have been working with the last few years says pronouns should always be respected.

there's obviously a reason why he assumes the woman uses the "she" pronoun

It’s funny, because some cities are actually heading in this direction.

Yes. Dublin is only livable if you are at least upper middle class because of the rent. There is also a lot of crime and traffic congestion.
