Besides, the publishing industry is full of woke assholes. And self-publishing is run by the same kind of tech giants (Amazon) who deplatform people, sooo...
I feel this because I was coming to grips that I don't have the right skin colour (east asian a.k.a not melanin enough), sexuality (cis), religion (Christian), or chromosomes (XX) to be the next trendy thing in the publishing world. And Amazon doesn't even send money over to where I live (Non American). Other than hosting my own website, there's very little chance for me to get anywhere (original works anyway. My fanfiction is doing well)
I have complained similarly to my animator friend. And this is what he tells me: keep practicing. It takes a long time to build any skill, especially as a writer. If you don't train now you won't be able to stand in the spotlight when the pendulum swings back.
In the meantime, I highly recommend you to visit The Story Grid for guides on how to write good stories and not the current year garbo.
About social media, yeah it really really sucks when the community you've built for so long just kerpoofs for stupid reasons and by stupid people. Real life isn't better either for many areas. I can't answer you how to get around this issue yet. but, I can encourage you to keep sharpening your skills for the future even if it makes zero fucking sense in the current moment. At the very least it prevents you from spiralling down the social media depression hole.

Good advice from your animator friend. People won't be able to use wokeness as an excuse for poor work forever. The same people who tell you that you're too privileged are also the ones who complain the loudest when their coffee is cold or their Amazon order took a couple of extra days to get to them. Merit still counts, and people are starting to realize that again, now that things are starting to get shittier. Keep at it!
