"You shouldn't ever need 'proof' to believe a rape victim"

...unless, as we've recently learned, the perpetrator is a man in a dress.

I feel when they say "believe" here they mean it in the same way they say "believe trans women are women".

That is to play pretend you believe to be nice/kind/cowardly not to actually believe it's the complete truth.

Rape is generally indistinguishable from consensual sex, that's the problem. Do you believe the woman (man goes to jail), or insist on proof (man goes free). I think everyone should start calling it the Cosby dilemma.

I think you treat the alleged victim with the care and respect you'd give someone you know 100% had been raped because that may well be the case.

This shouldn't affect how you treat the suspect.

After all if you were really concerned about the victim you'd want to build a soild case which is going to get them justice even if that means upsetting them.

Mostly it's about people being treated badly when they go the the cops because they are too lazy to do their job and just want to get rid of people.

You know Jet, as a man I hate the idea of possibly being falsely accused, but I have a wife, a girlfriend, a niece, a mother, and female friends and god forbid nobody believed them if they were raped. But again as a man I realize there are some crazy and scandalous bitches out there. It's... Difficult.

Do you think cops treat women who report rape like shit because they're abusive assholes or because they see a lot of scandalous women? I sincerely wonder.

they are too lazy to do their job and just want to get rid of people.

Exactly, and they wonder why it's mostly white people who want to defund police. They don't do shit unless you're murdered, and sometimes not even then. Helps to look pretty.

Interesting a lot of reports of mistreatment by victims say the male police officers are very understanding then a female officer will come in and lay into them and accuse them of all sorts of things.

This might be good cop/bad cop being acted out but my feeling is this is intrasex competition, a jealous female cop trying to shut down a women who is getting a lot of attention.

I think you need to take into account that it's often the crazy women who are targeted for abuse because the rapist knows they are less likely to be believed and they are more socially isolated.

Feminists don't like the fact but if you've been raped once you are far more likely than the average person to be raped again because rapists attack vulnerable people and your vulnerability is often something you carry with you rather than a temporary thing like being drunk or alone. If a man targeted you once because you are disabled or crazy you can't really do anything to remove that risk factor so you always have that additional risk.

So it's tricky. Crazy women possibly with personality disorders are likely to lie but also more likely to be attacked. And then PTSD can also have the same symptoms as BPD so abuse can make people appear crazy. Maybe the cases where those issues seem present should be handled separately from women who are competent witnesses, with psychologists and doctors involved in interviews.

The answer is, "Trust, but verify."

Don't immediately call the woman a liar, but also check for proof.

That's the problem, there's usually no evidence that definitively proves rape over consensual sex. It often goes down to one person's word against another.

If there were an easy way to resolve this it wouldn't be such a difficult issue.

I'd blow Harvey Weinstein for a million bucks. At some point, when you're receiving financial compensation for sex -- you're not a victim, you're a whore.

Cosby, those women all thought they were advancing their careers. He did not live up to his side of the deal, but whatever, is it rape because he didn't pay up?

That kid that got caught fingering a passed out chick... I mean in drunken fucking, people pass out and don't always remember they were down to go a moment before. Might have just been bad timing, in a moment he would have realized she was out.

OR maybe they're all examples of terrible crimes. It's impossible to know for sure sometimes. Erring on the side of caution means rapists get away with it, trusting women absolutely means some evil ass women will abuse that power and innocent men will lose everything and go to jail.

Erring on the side of caution means rapists get away with it, trusting women absolutely means some evil ass women will abuse that power and innocent men will lose everything and go to jail.

And the problem is: Both of those things are disgusting.

The biggest problem boils down to how rape is the only crime on the books considered a PvP thing. It's black and white: Either the man did it and he's 100% guilty, or he gets acquitted for any reason including "everyone knew he's guilty as sin but the prosecutor had almost run out of ink in the pen and put one dot in the "Do not write in this space" so he gets to walk on the ticky-tackiest of technicalities", so the woman's 100% a liar who just wanted to hurt a man because she could.

to kill a mockingbird, fictional. In reality, what it was based on, was a case where a black man did rape a white woman.
