America's military was never as strong as people like to make it appear to be. The only reason why Germany lost Wold War II was because Russia was there to do the heavy lifting. Russia was there to kick Germany's ass while America dragged its feet to enter the war. The Russian Army is why Germany lost Wold War II.

When the war was over, Churchill himself was so scared of Russia he wanted to invade Russia, take down Stalin with help from America and France. America backed out of the idea because America was too scared to take on Russia after seeing Russia kick Germany's ass and America already had its hands full with Japan, a nation smaller than Germany and with less technologically advanced weaponry.

America did not look strong in the Korean War, nor in the Vietnam War. Sure America can flex its muscle over banana republics but not over nations that can put up a fight.
