Right, and I dont know why anyone would think it does, unless the premise is that authority can be trusted to only cut out tongues for good reasons, and Game of Thrones depicts are universe where authority should definitely not be trusted to do anything for good reasons.

You're over analyzing a nice quote out of context but sufficiently stands on its own, as apparently others appreciate.

No where does it say "authority can be trusted to only" anything.

IMO authority can't be trusted, period.

Logic; the only way cutting a tongue out can prove something is if that action binds to some other premise; the premise being that someone only cuts a tongue out for good cause.

Suppose you trust your town's government, you see that they're repairing the roads, the fact that you see the roads being repaired and that you trust the town means that they roads must have needed repairing, a sort of proof. But maybe the town can't be trusted, maybe the mayor's brother-in-law is doing the work and the whole thing is a sham. The proof would be predicated on the idea that you trust authority taking the action. The general idea that anyone would trust someone who cuts out people's tongues out borders on absurd.

The general idea that anyone would trust someone who continues wars in over 7 countries (and I could go on and on and on and on) borders on absurd.
