As a fan of the fictive universe Martin has created, I welcome seeing the other seminal event of said universe. I also welcome the change of directors - keeping things fresh, as well as the involvement of the author.

Good decisions all around it would seem.

I'm guessing the Starks, like the Targaryens - are part experiment - that is - like the WW, they are creations of the Children of the Forest - as hinted at throughout the books and somewhat - by the Bloodraven story SKIP VIDEO TO 12:57. A human, given special powers by the Children of the Forest and elevated to god status by its creators (just like was their intention for the whitewalkers, until they turned on the children).
