Cops does not present police as heros... Have you ever actually watched it?

Agreed, the stuff on Cops has shown and normalized bad behavior by law enforcement.

Perhaps, but it was originally designed to shine a light on such misconduct... with the hope of educating the public.

Really? I did not know that. I always thought it was sensationalizing bad behavior. It was always a conundrum to me as to why people who watched the show seemed to be OK with the conduct shown on it.

Yeah it did seem to morph in to that. But I watched a documentary about it once, and the guy who made it was a big advocate for neutrally reporting police actions, in the hope of educating the public. But like you said, many just watched it as entertainment. I had a roommate from Europe once who watched it just to be blown away by how terrible American police are. His reaction was half "oh my god this is so messed up" and half "haha this is so ridiculous", which I think is the reaction most people have.

edit: Hm I guess saidit is being DDOS'd again, time to try out our new defenses
