I'm regarding this one more in the context of "open"-hardware. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I have spent a lot of time with new and old hardware and here is what I have to say. fuck every one.

I completely understand. But we gotta keep getting better ("trying" in this context., sadly)... You know. :)

I even started liking all the really old stuff. Like analogue encryption and stuff like that.

About this i only can write: FUCK these NSA asshats. Seriously.

Hiring all the brainpower they can from the market to control it. FUCK THEM .

And even if each and everyone of them gets fucked in their life-time this time:

All my gods will torture each and everyone of them till they start getting humbler after they died. If they don't start getting humbler then, they don't have been tortured long enough for sabotaging human progress as a whole.

My friends in this endeavor all have more "Russian"-like-ethics. Coincidence ?

I don't think so... Because money itself never is a mountain. It only is a molehill. A small one, even.

Better? Why do you need better? As humans, we do not need a thing in this space.

People forget that a moon landing was possible because of 2mhz 16 bit processor. Also, while we are talking about space, modern nasa missions have to have 4 computers running simultaneously, because all computers are subject to random errors because of cosmic rays. Completely unreliable.

However, old stuff is where it is at. I am currently going over several old laptops trying to remake them into at least useful media machines and its nigh impossible, because no one does backwards compatibility and even then it wont matter, because when hardware power increases, software bloats to fill the unused vaccum. Software is getting worse, but hardware better? Spare me.

Except the unofficial windows 98se service pack. That is amazing.

That is why i hope that RISC V gets some more traction hopefully.

Look at TPM and all this bullshit... These essentially are hardware killswitches. If you don't apply the device you bought like these asshats want you to.

So why do you feel inclined to buy them in the first place ? Because there are almost no alternatives considering the fact you wrote, that all their software is essentially the same bullshit. Newer software imho even only is distributed to make you their datamine-slave, considering the fact that all the magic happens on their machines: not yours.

And these asshats let you pay three times for it: Hardware has a price, Software has a price, your metadata have a value and BONUS round: Rolling release they declared as bullshit. Because they are fucking asshats .

It is not only about the software. Locking accessibility of computing power is just another instrument to lock numbed-down enough sheeple into their fucked up cages.
