Unfortunately people and organizations often call (market) themselves as being the opposite of what they actually are. Needless to say, I've come to understand the reasons and the need for McCarthyism, cold war propaganda and even The Heritage Foundation. So if I had to chose which action to take then every time I'm going to side with striking down all forms of Marxism.

Again, I get what you are saying and I just don’t see American Unions as a form of Marxism. I adore the Heritage Foundation. McCarthy clearly didn’t go far enough. But just look at how much better the NFL has become since the advent of a strong NFLPA, for example. The owners were fat cats who couldn’t get out of their way. With a strong union, an entrepreneurial generation of owners was forced in. Owners who are now forced to compete in the market place to generate additional income.

Ownership colludes. In a healthy capitalist market place, workers have the right to as well. So long as you have the right to not join the union and so long as it emanates from the workers themselves, it’s not Marxist. For it to be Marxist or even socialist, it would have to be government-derived. It’s the lie of Marxism that Marxism is somehow worker derived.

That’s the thing that separates Communist/Socialism for Capitalism. We can have societies that are mirrors/nearly identical in structure but when theirs is built top down by government committees and ours is built bottom up by free people, ours will always be stronger. It’s precisely when free people are not allowed to freely assemble that capitalism tips into totalitarianism and becomes weak.

The role of a good capitalist government is to intensify and maximize competition in the market place. If collusion is permitted then government is either failing in its duty or it's been compromised. That said, I'm still in favor of striking down all forms of Marxism and that includes unions.

However I agree with you 110% on McCarthy. But I think if I was in charge that I would probably go a lot further than you would.

Probably. I'm not really a purist in any sense. The waters should always be muddy. Competition in all things and all things in competition.

I don't see where the role of government is ever to intensify anything. Sounds kind of commie to me ;-)

Government intensifies competition by ensuring there are no monopolies, no collusion, etc. Also because there are some areas that government MUST get involved in (eg. Military) it should outsource whatever elements that can be outsourced of its undertaking to private sector. In dealings for these contracts it must be fair, offering no extraordinary benefits in exchange for work, and it must be free from any influence in awarding them.

Fair enough. I have 120db "fireworks" consistently going off on every block around me at the moment so I'm not going to argue semantics. I'll leave you this tired old trope as a small peace offering.

Peace offering gladly accepted! I truly hope those fireworks stop soon for you.

I agree with you 100% on this. The sad reality is, however, companies like Halliburton have negotiated contracts that enable an extraordinary amount of wastefulness. All funded by Joe taxpayer in the end. Go down that rabbit hole and it will put a damper on your whole day :(

I believe in innovation but I can't shake the feeling that we probably would have been better off without computers and the Internet.
