I used to leave a dead man's switch in my code. The first time I had it check /etc/password for my user id. When they deleted it the code would die the next time it was started.

In later years I had a shell script that I ran once every 3 months to "renew" the code.

If I left voluntarily I would do a quick patch or comment out a few lines of code to fix everything. If not...
