Steven Spielberg directed the first Columbo episode

Murder by the Books. It wasn't a great episode, but it set a tone and precedent for the rest of the series.
I noticed a lot of the characters are divorced. The divorce rate in the 1970s was at an unprecedented all time high. Over 70 percent of women in some states filed for divorce after the introduction of no-fault divorce.
Did the show reflect the times or shape them?

ET was also about divorce. It's a recurring theme in all of Steve Spielberg's oeuvre!

Pretty depressing shit if you think about it.
Over 70 percent of women in some states filed for divorce after the introduction of no-fault divorce.
That sounds really implausible.

It was the first of the regular series. There were two pilots before that.
