When I went on holiday to Northumberland most houses had a curtain which could be drawn behind the front door. This seems very sensible if you are living in a cold area.

is it attached to the door?

The curtain pole is above the door frame.

We do that. Didn't even know it was a thing but we do that. It's more for the mosquitoes than cold air.

wouldn't both mosquitos and cold air easily go around the curtain

Curtains are more for keeping out sun and also people from looking in windows

Door curtains. Doors not windows. Read the posts. Yes, they help.

front doors usually have windows on them so that's why you'd have a curtain on it

Ever heard of a 3 dog night? Yes, it was a band. They named it after a night that was so cold you needed 3 dogs sleeping with you to keep warm.
