I'll put my hands up and say I used to buy into the ethnographic explanation for this behaviour. I mean powerful men have used sex with men for punishment or showing superiority through most cultures and periods of history.

However it's actually the trans trend which has opened my eyes to just how many self oppressed bisexual men there are out there. Now it think that is the most likely explanation.

This will probably be read as biphobic by people who use such words often but there's a hell of a lot of problems caused in society by bi people who assume everyone thinks like them rather than realising their way of seeing the world is a minority one.

I'm sorry. No. Men who consistently, volitionally have sex with men for no extrinsic benefit, such as money, assuming they're not being deprived of women (as is the case with prison,) they are either bisexual or gay. Experimenting is just behavior, consistency denotates orientation. When you're free to make your own choices and you keep engaging your same sex, you're bisexual or gay.
