We've had s/LGBDropTheT here for 7-8 months with no major problems. We were attacked far more often on Reddit.
The larger problem is that gender ideology is now being taught at all levels of education. Being pro-gender ideology has now become a way to prove how virtuous you are to all your friends. People risk social ostracization and even loss of employment for criticizing it. Women are some of the main voices demanding that male-bodied athletes be allowed in women's sports.
The interesting part is when you look at the history of gender ideology, it was really only a VERY small number of people who invented and disseminated it, but several of them were well-positioned in internet technology jobs and pressured tech companies to embrace it. Riki Wilchins is a big name here, and they had rich backers like Jennifer Pritzker.
I taught at major universities for twenty years, ending in 2010, and throughout all those years, sometimes having as many as 120 students per semester, I never had a single openly trans-identified student in any of my classes. Think about that. Then, it got on Tumblr and got promoted to a lot of young kids.
If it seems like all this came out of nowhere, that's not far from true. It was a small group of people who managed to use their leverage to spread these ideas across the culture and deplatform any critics.

A study released in January 2019 by the US Center for Disease Control found that almost 2% of US high school students identified as transgender.
In a high school or 2000 that's around 40 students - does anyone remember 40 transgender students in their high school? Anyone who can't see this is a fad is in denial. But far from an organic fad, the transgender fad is top down, driven by people with a vested interest, as JulienMayfair notes.

I'm over 50, and in all those years of being a gay man, there is only ONE person I knew who transitioned. Including that person, I met ~3 trans people during the entire decade of the 1990s, living in a major California city. Prior to 1991, it was zero.
