Yeah I don't hear this argument made enough. It proofs that the best intention for banning guns has to be an irrational fear. Knives can be more deadly on many levels (easier to get, conceal, and use, yet threat level is arguably higher in close quarters) but somehow they're not as scary in the general opinion of society.

I think most people realize at some level that to appease, or comply with our 'overlords' wishes, means the possibility of peace. Meaning at some level, I think most people recognize that their concessions are just that; concessions which always result in less freedoms, and more controls, but for the short term, less whining across the media.
